Did you know the modern Splash Mountain isn’t exactly the same as the original version as it opened in 1989? We have the recording!
Splash Mountain and all of its residents are movin’ right along. Soon all the bre’r folk will be toss out of the attraction to be replaced by the bayou. But before Splash Mountain is totally redone, we thought it was worthwhile to take a look at a newly uncovered video from very early in the attraction’s life.
In the first year of Splash Mountain’s existence, the music was slightly different than it has been ever since. The current song that plays as the ride takes a darker turn is called “Burrow’s Lament.” That wasn’t always the case. Previously, the song was “Sooner or Later,” and the song had differently choreographed animatronics, as well as different voice lines. Even if you’re a Disney Parks guru, there’s a strong chance you’ve never seen this before:
A RARE look at an early version of the burrow scene in Splash Mountain at Disneyland in 1989. Burrow’s Lament isn’t playing but Sooner or Later is! Imagineers went back into the attraction and switched the audio and reprogrammed the figures accordingly!#SplashMountain #Disneyland pic.twitter.com/hIrME547bN
