Alec Baldwin killed Halyna Hutchins. The FBI has ruled the trigger was pulled, proving that Baldwin is a killer and a liar. Yet he roams free.
If you’re looking for who in this world has true privilege and is above the law, you need look no farther than Alec Baldwin. If you want to be able to kill a woman and not even be arrested for accidental homicide, be like Alec. Whatever it is that he has, it looks a whole lot like the real world equivalent of a Get Out of Jail Free card. Except Alec Baldwin doesn’t even go to jail.
The FBI has concluded that the gun Alec Baldwin was holding had its trigger pulled, and as a result of the trigger being pulled, Alec Baldwin shot and killed Halyna Hutchins. We all know that one of the most important rules for handling a gun on the set of a movie production is that you check it for live ammunition when it is handed to you. Another very important rule is that you never point it at anyone, even if there are no bullets inside. Movie productions always use camera angles to make it seem that a gun is pointed at someone when that should never, ever occur. Alec Baldwin, who ran the company in charge of the movie Rust, ignored those rules and then lied about pulling the trigger.
“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger.”
— Alec Baldwin to George Stephanopoulos
There’s a big issue for Baldwin in terms of the truth, even if he apparently has little fear of prosecution. In terms of the truth, the hammer was found to not be pulled back far enough to allow a released hammer on the gun to cause an accidental fire. It was the trigger. It was always the trigger. And Baldwin deserves to be a pariah for the rest of his days, not only for killing an innocent woman, but also for lying about it later.
Yet though Alec Baldwin is a liar and a killer, ABC News reports that the investigation from New Mexico is going to label the homicide as an accident anyway.
“Death was caused by a gunshot wound of the chest. Review of available law enforcement reports showed no compelling demonstration that the firearm was intentionally loaded with live ammunition on set,” the report stated. “Based on all available information, including the absence of obvious intent to cause harm or death, the manner of death is best classified as accident.”
I suppose that’s technically true, but that sure doesn’t cover the incredible amount of mishandling of firearms on the set. How can there possibly be this much malfeasance and no charge at all?
But if you’re Alec Baldwin you can kill people and just keep on going. That’s privilege. That’s privilege.
