She-Hulk Episode 2 Review: Legally Blon… Err… Green?

It’s supposed to be a comedy. Why, then, am I not laughing? The second episode of She-Hulk provides little when searching for a reason to watch.

There are times when Jennifer Walters is presented as a competent lawyer that any firm would want to hire. There are times when she is presented with the mindset of a high school teenager. The disjointed nature of her persona leads me to have almost zero affinity for her. She’s not believable. In one scene she’s supposedly the type of attorney who can handle a tremendously important task force. In another scene she’s acting like an idiot with her idiot friend as they pretend to be auditioning for a direct to VHS “Legally Blonde” spinoff.

I guess if I had to provide a mood the episode gave me, it would be “bored”. There’s just nothing really here to snag me emotionally or narratively. The only moment I had high hopes came when Mark Linn-Baker, playing Jen’s father, provides her with a quiet life lesson in the garage. Hopefully we see much more of him because it’s one of the only times the show feels grounded whatsoever. Thanks, Mark.

As for Jen and her friend, I can only assume this is put in to appease stupid people. I mean really, when the two characters are together, the IQ level of this show drops down to a pre-teen Disney Channel production. It’s awful.

And since there’s nothing remarkable or noteworthy about this show otherwise, let me just say that it appears they blew the budget on the first episode. The CGI in episode two is markedly worse and it’s bad enough that it makes paying attention difficult. When Jen is She-Hulk, She-Hulk looks like she belongs in a video game. The lighting is wrong, the facial animations are plastic and you’re thankful when she switches back to the normal actress.

I didn’t hate the second episode but I see no reason to watch it. Surely, if the series does improve, this is an episode I could recommend people just skip. It seems very pointless.
