Alec Baldwin Disparages the Husband of the Woman He Killed

Alec Baldwin is still not arrested. Alec Baldwin pointed a gun at a woman and shot her. Alec Baldwin is still not arrested. Alec Baldwin made certain statements about the hammer of the weapon during an interview on ABC that implicate him in having caused the weapon to discharge. Alec Baldwin is still not arrested.

If you’d like to know what real privilege looks like, being able to kill someone — either purposefully or accidentally — and not being arrested would be a great way to gauge it.

Though if you thought that real, actual privilege ended at being able to cause someone’s death through lack of accountability, responsibility and weapon safety, you would be wrong in the case of Alec Baldwin. Actual privilege goes so much farther than that, even to the point of thinking it is okay to disparage the husband of the woman you killed.

Enjoy this quote from Mr. Baldwin, courtesy of Bounding Into Comics:

What you have is a certain group of people, litigants and whatever, on whatever side, who their attitude is, ‘well the people who likely seem negligent have no money and the people who have money are not negligent. But we’re not going to let that stop us from doing what we need to do, in terms of litigation. So we have people that are suing people that they think are deep-pockets litigants. Why sue people if they’re not going to get money?

When someone, whose job is to ensure the safety of a weapon, hands someone else, whose job is to be the secondary layer of protection for safety of a weapon, and they hand you that weapon, you declare that that weapon is safe. That’s how I’ve done it my whole life. All my career, without incident, I’ve relied on the safety experts there to declare the gun safe and never had a problem, and this happened. And of course, this is to me sometimes it’s so surreal [that] I don’t even know what to say.

I was involved in a situation where somebody was killed. It’s changed my life, just in terms of the function of weapons in films and television; the function of safety procedures, which we’re all going to have to address eventually.

This woman was a lovely woman, she was a lovely woman, and she was talented.

For context, Mr. Baldwin is being sued by Halyna Hutchins’ husband because Mr. Baldwin killed Hutchins. Alec Baldwin has still not been arrested.

Let’s review the quote above:

  1. A “certain group of people, litigants and whatever” refers to the husband of the woman killed by Alec Baldwin firing a bullet into her.
  2. Alec Baldwin has not offered to pay restitution for the death of the woman he killed by firing a bullet into her. Otherwise, at least one lawsuit would not be ongoing.
  3. Nobody believes that if you are handed a weapon that you are absolved of all responsibility by someone else. You are in charge of being responsible with a weapon in your hands. Baldwin’s assertion is ludicrous and not in line with actual, normal film production policies.
  4. It changed his life that someone was killed. Yes, it also changed the lives of everyone who loved the woman killed.
  5. Safety procedures don’t have to be addressed by anyone other than Baldwin, you frankly, should have been arrested months ago.

That’s what privilege does for you though, right? And if you’re still curious if Baldwin is a sick, sick man, just remember:

“I let go of the Hammer, the gun goes off.”

But Alec Baldwin has still not been arrested.
