Chuck Dixon, the scribe of Rippaverse’s Alphacore, explained why The Marvels bombing at the box office “is a cause for celebration.”

The Marvels bombed at the box office only bringing in $46.1 million domestically and another $62.8 million internationally for a global gross of $108.9 million.

Domestically, it had a $6.6 million Thursday night. On Friday it took in $21.6 million. By Saturday the box office grossed had declined to $15.2 million and on Sunday it only brought in $9.2 million.

The movie had the worst opening weekend for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film ever.

Dixon reacted to the film bombing by reminding his followers that it is “a cause for celebration.”

He wrote on Facebook, “This bears repeating: Because the majority of us are tired of seeing characters and franchises we loved sacrificed on the altar of wokeness by people who don’t have the love, talent, craft or business ever getting anywhere NEAR these properties. That this movie is failing so big IS a cause for celebration.”

“It’s a wake-up call for the entertainment BUSINESS that they need to get back to producing the well-crafted stuff they used to be capable of,” he elaborated. “I mean, when a weak cheese movie of a dry-ball subject like Oppenheimer is out-earning the latest popcorn blockbuster that’s US telling THEM to get their s**t together.”

While Dixon notes it’s a reminder to the entertainment business to get back to making quality movies, he’s also putting his money where his mouth is.

Deadline reported at the end of October that Sylvester Stallone is adapting the first novel in Dixon’s Levon Cade series, Levon’s Trade. The film will star Jason Statham and be directed by David Ayer. It’s expected to go into production in March 2024 in London.

Dixon previously informed Bounding Into Comics that the movie will stay true to the novel.

He explained, “Sly’s been talking about doing Levon Cade as either a feature or a series for years. Covid and the strikes interfered with getting the project started.”

He added, “His adaptation of the novel is remarkably faithful, which is flattering. Sly’s opened up the action a bit for the movie but it’s still very much my story and my characters as written.”

The official description for the Levon’s Trade novel states, “Levon Cade left his profession behind to work construction. He just wants to live an anonymous life and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he’s asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counterterrorism.

Levon’s hunt for the missing college student takes him to the heart of a vicious criminal conspiracy, and his actions create a chain reaction that threatens all he holds dear. It’s time for him to return to his trade. And Levon’s trade is death.”
