Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action adaptation of God of War just made a casting decision regarding its dwarves.

Amazon MGM Studios has officially cast Seinfeld alum Danny Woodburn as Brok and Jeff Gulka as Sindri in its live-action God of War series. Both characters are being portrayed by actual Little People actors, marking a clear break from recent Hollywood decisions that avoided casting real dwarf performers in dwarf roles.

For God of War fans, Brok and Sindri aren’t window dressing. They’re foundational characters — emotionally rich, narratively essential, and deeply woven into the heart of the modern Norse saga. And now, Amazon’s decision to cast them authentically lands as both a creative win and a pointed rebuttal to one of Hollywood’s most infamous recent controversies.

Peter Dinklage Kicked the Ladder Over Behind Him

It’s impossible to discuss this moment without addressing the elephant in the room — or rather, the seven CGI creatures that haunted Disney’s Snow White remake.

That decision didn’t happen in a vacuum. It followed public criticism from actor Peter Dinklage, who blasted Disney for even considering casting Little People actors as the Seven Dwarves. He framed the concept itself as offensive, arguing that such portrayals reinforced outdated stereotypes.

Disney listened — and the result was a bizarre compromise that pleased almost no one. Instead of hiring real actors, the studio replaced them with fully CGI creations that many viewers found creepy, distracting, and oddly dehumanizing.

The fallout was immediate.

A number of Little People actors spoke out, furious that a rare opportunity for meaningful, high-profile work had been erased. Among the loudest voices was WWE Legend Hornswoggle, who publicly tore into Dinklage during appearances with Piers Morgan and Tucker Carlson.

The criticism was blunt: Dinklage, the most famous dwarf actor in the world, appeared to be kicking the ladder down behind him.

The Hypocrisy Critics Refused to Ignore

What made the backlash sting was Dinklage’s own career history.

In Elf, his role famously hinges on the fact that Will Ferrell’s Buddy repeatedly mistakes him for an elf — the entire joke revolving around his stature. In Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister is constantly labeled a dwarf, a “half-man,” and worse — with the story using that marginalization as a key component of his arc.

Those roles didn’t destroy Dinklage’s career. They made it.

To many in the Little People acting community, his stance wasn’t protective — it was exclusionary. And it had real consequences.

Amazon MGM Studios Makes a Different Choice

That’s why Amazon MGM Studios’ handling of Brok and Sindri matters.

Rather than overthinking themselves into paralysis, the studio did something radical by modern Hollywood standards: they cast two Little People actors to play two dwarves in God of War — without apology, without euphemism, and without digital replacement.

It’s a direct rejection of the idea that authentic representation for that specific community is somehow inherently offensive.

And it’s especially meaningful given the power behind God of War. This isn’t a niche indie project. It’s a flagship adaptation of one of PlayStation’s most prestigious franchises, one that will be dissected, debated, and endlessly discussed the moment it premieres.

Why Brok and Sindri Matter

For longtime fans of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, Brok and Sindri are anything but comic relief dwarves.

In the first game, their fractured brotherhood quietly mirrors the larger themes of broken families and emotional distance. In Ragnarök, that relationship becomes central — grounding the epic, god-shattering stakes in something painfully human.

Their story is about resentment, guilt, love, and reconciliation. It’s messy. It’s emotional. And it works precisely because the characters feel real.

Casting them authentically reinforces that emotional core rather than undermining it.

A Subtle but Powerful Industry Statement

Amazon isn’t grandstanding here. There was no press release lecturing audiences. No victory lap about “doing the right thing.”

They simply cast the roles properly.

In doing so, they’ve offered a quiet counterexample to the rhetoric that led Disney down a creatively disastrous path — proving that studios don’t have to erase performers to avoid offending a handful of loud voices.

For Little People actors, it’s a rare, high-profile opportunity. For God of War fans, it’s a sign the adaptation understands what makes the story work. And for Hollywood, it’s a reminder that sometimes the simplest choice is the correct one.

In a landscape littered with overcorrections and self-inflicted wounds, Brok and Sindri’s casting stands out — not because it’s controversial, but because it shouldn’t be.

In Game Of Thrones, the earliest seasons were insanely funny when the dwarf was mocked. This was brilliant entertainment, because the Dwarf had to use his wit, and wits, to be successful, which gave him, ironically, great dignity.
HOWEVER, in later seasons, which were PC / woke, the Dwarf was respected, no one took the piss. And, well, the Dwarf became smug, instead of smart. Indeed, he became stupid, and, at the same time, uninteresting.
