Jesse McCree, the cowboy fighter in Overwatch, will receive a name change due to the fact the character was named after a Blizzard employee recently fired for inappropriate behavior. The developer was discovered to have inappropriate communications surrounding a sexual exploitation room.
Changing the name of a character is no small deal. In order to make this happen, a vast amount of audio files will have to be deleted and replaced. No doubt there will need to be story content generated to explain this change. However, none of this story content is likely to reflect the actual reality of why a character’s name must be modified.
However, not everyone is impressed with these changes. Inappropriate language may be featured in the following tweets, but they are included to show public response:

UPDATE
Following the termination of the namesake of "Overwatch" character Jesse Mcree, the Overwatch team has opted to rename the popular character.

Everyone: Activision Blizzard is doing everything wrong, the company is in shambles.
Activision Blizzard: Yeah, we'll change McRee's name. We're sure this announcement will sit well with all that's been happening lately. What could go wrong? https://t.co/nyK2qbHghc

Renaming Mccree doesn't matter either way for me, although I don't feel like it's necessary
Statement gives a virtue signal vibe tho
One good thing to come out of this is the removal of in-game chars named after devs/real people
Hurts immersion and seems narcissistic https://t.co/rzDqJucctN

Blizzard, scrambling in matthew Mercer to redo all of the cowboy lines who’s first line when he drops in is “….names mccree…” pic.twitter.com/hDjaB02w9w

To the best of the knowledge of That Park Place writers, this is something completely unprecedented. Never before has a video game company renamed a major character because the character is named after someone who is accused of sexual misconduct. At this point, it is questionable how Overwatch 2 might perform. Clearly Activision Blizzard is in serious trouble in a multitude of ways.
