Bluey Keeps Getting Censored on Disney+ Despite Other Programs Not

Although you can get away with plenty that some might find controversial on Disney+, clearly cartoon dogs are not to discuss “tooting”.

You would think that the company responsible for Baymax+, Lightyear and more, would be a bit lenient on what sorts of content is allowed into children’s programming. Lightyear, for example, has two women who become pregnant without explanation for children. Baymax+ has a number of issues, one of which is a biological boy watching a biological girl in a gender inclusive restroom while she deals with menstruation. Yet despite those boundary-pushing episodes in kiddie content, Disney+ seems to take real issue with the little show called Bluey that has drawn some criticism for its conservative approach to representation.

CinemaBlend has a rundown on at least one of the “issues” which has earned Bluey a banhammer. Be aware that the words you’re about to see, in the context in which they will be written, are not anything we have ever thought would appear on this site:

When Dad’s accused of fluffing in Bluey’s face as he climbs out of bed, he’s put on trial with Mum as the judge, and Bluey and Bingo as witnesses. Bluey might also have to explain what she was doing there.

Without any official statement from Disney+ reps out there at the moment, it can only be assumed that the House of Mouse turned their nose at “Family Meeting” due to farting being a central element to the ep’s narrative. Not that Disney’s own animated programming over the years has been wholly highbrow and fart-free, and it’s not like earlier Bluey episodes haven’t also featured moments with Bandit breaking wind. But I guess passively passing gas is on a different level than a father facing allegations of farting in a child’s face.

Okay, I didn’t know it was possible to love the Bluey show writers any more than I already did, but that’s perfect. That’s the most hilariously “real” family moment and episode you’ll see on television. An adult passed gas and the rest of the family puts them on trial. Perfect.

But those sorts of things aren’t allowed on Disney+ even while ideological and partisan pushing is… apparently.

After Pirates and Princesses ran a story on the issue, Kambrea Pratt (also known as “Geeky Sparkles”) received a purported message from someone working for Disney. Here’s what they allege to be the issue for at least one of the Blue episodes that has been altered and/or censored:

“Family Meeting” will roll out on U.S. platforms soon. Some of the “Bluey” content did not meet Disney Junior broadcast S&P in place at the time the series was acquired. Now that it is rolling out on other platforms, it is a great opportunity to reevaluate which is what we plan to do.

As for the obvious prudes at Disney who can’t handle a preschool breaking wind joke, we just have one thing to display.

I would never condone using a vpn to shift your IP address location to Australia and watch the censored episodes using the Australian Broadcasting Company’s website for free. Never.
