Spoilers Ahead…
I really don’t know what I’m watching with The Book of Boba Fett. The latest episode isn’t quite as silly and laughable as the third episode… it’s just boring. I’d also say that it goes beyond being boring and does something unforgivable: it purposefully skips the things we wanted to see in the show. Let me give a few examples.
When we started this show, the thing we wanted to see was how in the world this bounty hunter escaped the sarlacc pit. What we got was about a minute in the first episode of him escaping… and it was utterly disappointing. There was nothing cool about it, and almost all of it was hidden. We also wanted to see how Boba Fett took the throne of Jabba the Hutt. Instead, this episode was purposeful in showing that we will not get to see how it happened. Budget reasons? I don’t know. We wanted to see Black Krrsantan tear some arms off of somebody. Instead, we get a bloodless, goreless, screamless, G-Rated pulling of a single arm off a lizard person. I’m sure that thing will grow back, because this show has less action in it than an episode of Bluey.
c'est bien qu'il le démembre quand même à la fin car ça rend la série moins enfantine et surtout ça montre le vrai aspect de Krrsantan, un énorme nounours hyper têtu comme dans les comics pic.twitter.com/4LA4hXVmxG

There was a point when Boba Fett was talking harshly with a cute little robot, after a comical chase, in which I thought “okay, this is a kid’s show.” And it really plays like a child’s show. Not a children’s show for preteens, but really a show for small children. I’m curious though if Disney did a last minute cut of the Vespa Kidz because they were hurting the ratings so badly. We still see a Vespa briefly, but only briefly, at a mod shop. Speaking of which, I’m sort of curious if in the Star Wars universe it is considered wrong to mechanically alter someone without their consent. Just a question.
There are good things in the fourth episode. The musical call to The Mandalorian is surely a positive, as at least The Mandalorian will make things more active. I believe this was originally where Gina Carano was supposed to enter, but at least this has to make The Book of Boba Fett better. Though the fight at the casino was terribly choreographed, at least Krrsantan did rip an arm off… I honestly expected him to drop the trandoshan gambler given the attitude of this show. Krrsantan is a better anti-hero than Boba Fett.
Overall though, this episode is just absolutely boring. There are long rides in the desert on Snuffleupagus (which apparently is a carnivore now). There are ridiculously bad choreographed fight scenes with Fennec. There’s a scene where Boba Fett kills the sarlacc that is as obvious and tedious as I can imagine making it. It reminds me of a horror movie where no logical human being would go through a particular door alone… and then they do it. As soon as Boba drives his ship right up to the sarlacc, we all know what’s going to happen.
So this isn’t the worst episode. That easily belongs to Episode 3. But is that really the sort of conversation we should be having as we enter the final leg for this mini-series? There has honestly not been a single thing in this show that made me say, “oh, now that was cool.” If this is the sort of thing we can expect from future Star Wars live action series on Disney+, I fail to see how this will drive any new subscriptions. This is the sort of thing that perhaps should be watched as an entire series all at once, skipping scenes that are boring or silly. It’s not the sort of thing that I think will continue to drive week-to-week viewership. There’s just no meat in this.
Score: 2.5 (Bad)
That’s just my opinion, though… and you may have loved this episode. Let me know your comments in the box below – I really do read them and care!
