Robert Iger is giving a few answers to Disney employees. One of the most surprising: the vast hiring freeze for the company still stands.
During the cast member call with newly returned CEO, Bob Iger, confirmation was given to everyone on the call that the corporation-wide hiring freeze put in place by Bob Chapek is still active. According to Iger, there have been no actions to remove the hiring freeze. Additionally, Iger recognized in the call that the company needs to move fast to make upcoming changes. It was not explained exactly what that meant.
In regards to the layoffs, Iger did not clarify if they were still coming as of the time of publication. The ex-CEO, Bob Chapek, was part of a three-person panel that was to oversee the expenditure cutbacks… with him gone, we do not know if the panel continues to exist or who is on it. Whatever is happening with layoffs, a hiring freeze across the entire company and its subsidiaries is a dramatic action — one that indicates there is serious trouble at Disney, even if a full explanation has not yet been given to us.
One other bit of information from the conversation thus far is that it doesn’t seem the Disney Parks reservation system is going away soon. Iger demurred when asked about it. His answer did seem to indicate that Parks head honcho, Josh D’Amaro, has some degree of job security.
This is a breaking story… should more news come out, we will update this article.
