Following the slap heard round the world in which Will Smith struck Chris Rock at the Oscars, it may be that work is difficult to come by for Smith. In a rapid-fire series of events, both Disney+ and Netflix are either postponing or cancelling projects with the actor.

For Netflix, the loss will be the Bright sequel that Will Smith would have starred in. Though the film is officially stated to not be cancelled due to the unfortunate Oscars event, it’s hard not to think that it factored in somehow some way. And it’s not just Netflix but also Disney that is creating distance.

From Bloomberg:

Walt Disney Co.’s National Geographic division is delaying production of “Pole to Pole,” a nature series featuring Will Smith visiting the North and South Poles.

The series, the third the actor has done for the studio, was to have begun shooting in three weeks. Work will now be pushed back until the fall, according to a person familiar with the company’s plans who asked not to be identified.

All of this must be terribly disappointing for Smith, especially as his wife says his family is trying “to heal”. While they work to repair their own environment and relationships, we will wait to see how many more professional relationships and opportunities have been damaged by Smith’s outburst on live television. It certainly was a moment that could have been one of his greatest achievements, now turned into a time of deep regret.
