Back in December of 2024, a story made the rounds that Charlie Cox will appear as Daredevil in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor has finally responded to these claims.

Evidently, an Australian gym owner and his wife posted a photo of themselves and the Daredevil star with the caption, “Charlie is currently training for his role in the upcoming Avengers movie.” Later, the caption was changed, but the Internet still had screenshots of the original line. Several news outlets covered the screenshots of the original post. Various social media sources agreed that Charlie Cox would indeed be in Avengers: Doomsday.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Charlie Cox revealed what really happened. He explained that he was in Australia to spend Christmas with his family. On the last day he used the couple’s gym, he agreed to take a photo with them. The actor had told the couple that he was training for season two of Daredevil: Born Again, and thus didn’t understand why they’d claimed he was training for Avengers: Doomsday.

“Sometimes people who aren’t really in the [entertainment] world,” he told ET, “they don’t understand the terminology or whatever, but for some reason they posted that and they put ‘getting ready for his role in the Avengers,’ which is not true. [And] I felt terrible,” he continued. “I had to call my bosses and say, ‘I didn’t say that,’ obviously. Why would I say that? Why would I make something like that up? But I don’t think they made it up. I think they just got confused about what it is.”

It is indeed possible that the couple misheard or misunderstood him. It’s also entirely possible that Cox is simply covering for himself. After all, Andrew Garfield insisted for over a year that he wasn’t in Spider-Man: No Way Home and then we all watched him jump through that portal.

In regards to what else is in store for Charlie Cox, the actor has evidently expressed an interest in appearing in the DCU films. At FAN EXPO San Francisco in 2024, while promoting Daredevil: Born Again, a fan asked Charlie his costar Wilson Bethel what characters they’d want to play in a DC movie. Charlie Cox answered with The Joker.

“I wouldn’t want to take it on based on the actors you have in the past because they’re so brilliant,” he said, “but I was thinking like, the Joker would be a lot of fun. If you could find a way to do something. You know, I mean, Heath Ledger, for me, nailed that part, obviously. If you could find a new take on it in some way that would be cool.”

Charlie Cox went on to tell Entertainment Weekly, regarding Daredevil’s future in the MCU, “I have no knowledge of any other commitments at all. It definitely feels like Matt Murdock is in that world more, but it would be cool for that journey to continue.”

Mark Hamill does a great job voicing the Joker. He really comes across as a psychopathic nutjob that it’s unsafe to let your kids anywhere near. Two unrelated statements but both true.
