As for what to expect from this new prequel series, Prime Video provided details back in February when the series was still untitled.

In a press release they revealed, “The prequel series featuring additional iconic Carr characters, including James Reece (Chris Pratt), Raife Hastings, Mohammed Farooq, and Ernest “Boozer” Vickers (Jared Shaw), is an elevated espionage thriller that takes viewers on Edwards’ journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator, exploring the darker side of warfare and the human cost that comes with it.”

Furthermore, they shared, “Kitsch will star in the new untitled prequel series and serve as executive producer, alongside Chris Pratt through Indivisible Productions, Antoine Fuqua through Hill District Media, author Jack Carr, writer/showrunner David DiGilio, former Army Ranger Max Adams, and former Navy SEAL Jared Shaw.”

The first season adapted Carr’s book of the same name and saw Reece seek revenge against the people and organizations that murdered his daughter and wife. His daughter and wife were murdered after he returned home following his Navy SEALs were ambushed during a cover mission.

Reece eventually discovers that his team was part of an experimental drug test conducted by Capstone Industries and approved by the United States’ Secretary of Defense. The drug was supposed to prevent PTSD, but eventually gave Reece and his team fatal brain tumors.

At the end of the season, it’s revealed that Kitsch’s Edwards was in on the ambush and even orchestrated it. Like all the others on his Terminal List, Reece seemingly ends Edwards’ life.

A second season was announced back in February of last year. In a press release, “Prime Video confirmed a second season of the hit conspiracy thriller The Terminal List from MRC Television, with Season Two based on Jack Carr’s New York Times best-selling novel True Believer.”

Pratt said at the time, “I’m excited to announce that the second season of The Terminal List is on its way, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to reprise my role as James Reece. This season promises to be even more intense and action-packed than the first, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

He also commented on the prequel series, “And for those who are fans of Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards, I’m happy to say that we’re also working on a spinoff series that will delve deeper into his story and follow his journey from a Navy SEAL to a CIA operative. And to make it even more exciting, I will also be appearing in this prequel series!”

Pratt concluded, “I promise you it will be just as thrilling and engaging as The Terminal List. Stay tuned for more updates and we can’t wait for you all to join us on this journey.”

For his part, Kitsch said, “Thank you to all the fans for believing in this show, we wouldn’t be here without your support. I’m excited to continue this wild ride that is Ben Edwards and bring to life Jack Carr’s amazing stories.”

Carr also stated, “Fans of The Terminal List will be thrilled to see James Reece’s journey continue in an action-packed story of violent redemption in True Believer. And we’re so excited to build this Terminal List prequel and explore Ben Edwards, brought to life so powerfully by Taylor Kitsch. Get ready for a journey from the SEAL teams to the CIA’s Ground Branch, as we watch a fan-favorite character fighting for his soul.”

Prime Video has seemingly struck hot with their vigilante justice themed series such as The Terminal List and Reacher. The second season of Reacher, which is currently airing on Prime Video, saw massive viewership increases from the first season.

Deadline’s Katie Campione reported the first three episodes of Reacher Season 2, which premiered on December 15th “surpassed the entire Season 1 audience by 50% in the first three days on the streamer.”

Campione also claims that the series is the best performing program “in terms of total viewers” on Prime Video for 2023. It’s also the biggest premiere for a TV show since The Rings of Power released last last year. However, that show reportedly saw 63% of its initial audience fail to complete the series, a sign of its poor quality.

When the show arrived on the Nielsen Top 10 charts last week, it took the top spot for Original programming with 1.687 billion minutes viewed.

In fact, it was the second most watched program overall behind Netflix’s Leave The World Behind, which racked up 1.951 billion minutes viewed.

Nielsen Top 10 Overall chart for the Week of December 11, 2023 to December 17, 2023.
