Cobra Kai and Spider-Man Are Dominating Entertainment

You wouldn’t know this if you perused almost any entertainment site out there, but there is a cultural revolution in streaming and movies right now. Two properties are dominating everything out there. It isn’t The Witcher or The Book of Boba Fett. They’re like little blips compared to the big two in this article’s title.

On the small screen, Cobra Kai is the hottest thing since Stranger Things. And on the big screen, it’s Spider-Man all day and every day.

According to Netflix, Cobra Kai has logged more than 120 million hours for viewership of its Season 4. Compared to what we’re getting for The Book of Boba Fett data, it’s nice to see some straight numbers… and it’s curious that those numbers don’t match with what third party analytics had shown. For Spider-Man No Way Home, that movie is currently sitting in the eighth spot for most domestic box office revenue ever. It picked up more than $50 million in the last weekend, showing major staying power… and all of this during a pandemic variant that has been shutting down parts of the world and parts of the United States. Still, it doesn’t matter, nothing stops the Spider-Man. The film has a shot at breaking the top-five all time.

Andrew Garfield is a huge winner in all of this as he actually may get a part in Season 5 of Cobra Kai, while Sony must be chomping at the bit to get him back for an Amazing Spider-Man 3 if at all possible. It’s easy money.

So if you’re curious about where the culture is and what people are watching, it isn’t network TV or niche movies that the industry complex wants you to believe are hot. It’s Cobra Kai and Spider-Man with nothing else close. Look at these two properties and what they’re doing, then you’ll know where success can be found going forward for the next few years.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. It’s a short article today, but I’m working on something a bit bigger over the weekend. Hope everyone is having a great start to the near year, and wish all of you very well!

Just goes to show that audience word of mouth really matters! The critics and publications don’t really move the needle to get viewers. As Freddie Mercury said, “I’m a performer, I give the audience what they want.” I guess some people really need to re-learn that.
