Coca-Cola Freestyle beverage dispenser machines have been installed at Krusty Burger in Springfield, U.S.A., the The Simpsons-themed land inside Universal Studios Florida.

Four red Freestyle machines now stand near the restaurant’s entrances. Guests who purchase beverages at Krusty Burger can use the self-service units to fill or refill their cups. In addition, both in-person orders and mobile orders allow access to the dispensers.

The Freestyle system debuted in 2009. The Coca-Cola Company developed the touchscreen fountain to offer numerous drink combinations from a single machine. Since then, the technology has expanded to restaurants, arenas, and theme parks across the country.

Context Within Universal Orlando’s Beverage Program

Freestyle machines are not new to Universal Orlando Resort. In fact, several quick-service locations across the resort already use the system. Guests who purchase refillable souvenir cups typically receive access to participating machines throughout the day.

However, Springfield, U.S.A. previously relied on traditional soda fountains and bottled beverages. Therefore, the installation at Krusty Burger brings the land in line with beverage service offered in other areas of the resort. The change also standardizes drink distribution across high-traffic dining locations.

Krusty Burger operates as one of the central dining hubs in Springfield. The themed land opened in 2013 and recreates locations from the long-running animated television series The Simpsons. The restaurant complex includes multiple food counters arranged around shared seating.

Because Springfield draws consistent foot traffic, beverage operations must accommodate steady demand. As a result, adding four self-service units may help manage peak meal periods. While Universal has not detailed operational goals, the placement near entrances suggests an effort to streamline flow.

Guest Experience and Self-Service Technology

Freestyle machines operate through a touchscreen interface. Guests select a base beverage brand and then choose flavor variations from an on-screen menu. The system dispenses drinks from a centralized cartridge design housed inside the unit.

In theme park settings, self-service beverage stations can reduce wait times at ordering counters. Instead of receiving drinks directly from staff, guests complete the filling process independently. Consequently, employees may focus more on food preparation and order fulfillment.

Still, the installation reflects a broader pattern of operational adjustments across the park. Universal routinely modifies dining layouts, queue systems, and guest amenities to address attendance patterns. Therefore, the Freestyle addition appears consistent with incremental infrastructure updates.

For guests visiting Springfield, the new machines are available during standard park hours. As seasonal attendance fluctuates, observers may monitor whether similar adjustments appear elsewhere.
