Mayr shared to X that she was sprayed with pepper spray “sending many of us into coughing fits, teary eyes, and running for the doors for fresh air.”
She continued, “It seems everyone is ok. We’re still trying to figure out who did it and why. Just a really f***ed up thing to do in a crowd which happens to include a very pregnant woman.”
“The worst part about being pepper sprayed after my show; is that they waited like an absolute pussy and pepper sprayed me AFTER my show,” she concluded
She later added, “I’ve been advised to take a shower and throw away my contact lenses. I really don’t want to quarantine my outfit tho I really like it.”

Mayr later addressed the attack during Episode 116 of her SimpCast show.
She said, “We do the show. It starts about 10 minutes late. An ideal comedy show is about 90 minutes. I was like, ‘Okay, I don’t want us to go more than two hours.’ So I believe the show ended probably around 10:15. This happened around 10:15, 10:30 because we all came out into the hallway.”
Mayr later relayed she said was talking to a number of friends that she made during the pandemic following the show and there were about 10 to 15 people in the area.
Next, she said, “There was a guy who came in, I guess, 20 minutes before the show ended, which occasionally happens. There’ll be a fan who completely bungles the time. They show up super, super late, or someone could miss a bus or miss a ride. For awhile people were suspect of him because he had a backpack and his hands in his pockets. People weren’t getting the greatest vibe from him.”

From there, Mayr said, “And then I start laughing at something and then I start coughing. And then I keep coughing. I have this water next to me and I keep drinking water and I go, ‘Why am I having this embarrassing coughing fit? Is something maybe burning in the kitchen?’ And then I kind of went to the green room and it’s like, ‘Is it maybe coming from the green room? Is that connected to the kitchen?’ And then I keep coughing and I just feel like embarrassed like, ‘Ugh. What’s wrong with me?’ And then I see other people are starting to cough too.”
“It really was the weirdest thing,” she continued. “I have never experienced anything like it. We’re all coughing. I didn’t see any smoke. Other than maybe a faint burning smell I didn’t really smell anything. Didn’t see any smoke. Didn’t see anyone do anything or throw anything or run away. Then all of a sudden a lot of us are coughing and we’re just kind of like, ‘What the f***?’
She then revealed Keanu Thompson instructed her to leave the area.

Thompson would also share her testimony, “I’m coughing, and my eyes, and I knew immediately what it was because this happened to me in a gay club in 2014 where they just sprayed a bunch of mace into the air and you look around everyone’s coughing.”
“So I dart out because I’m a little spooked after my shooting. I felt like Secret Service. I’m like, ‘Chrissie, we need to get out of here. Now!’ We’re darting downstairs…”
Thompson then shared that they made it down stairs and outside. She also revealed her face was numb for 20 minutes after the attack.

Later in the video, Mayr speculated on what exactly happened, “It could have been a spray and walk away. Because we were next to the bathrooms, it could have been someone sprayed in the bathroom like they could have just stuck a hand in and sprayed because it had like a door that kind of wafted and swung back and forth. So they could have done that.”
