Get out your plastic pitchforks and light tiny torches with make-believe hairspray. Aqua’s nineties earworm, Barbie Girl, will not be featured in the upcoming Barbie Movie starring Margot Robbie. As the title suggests, this has to be the crime of the century.
There are two reasons the song is likely to not be featured:
- The song is from the nineties, a time before the wokeness began. There’s a solid chance the song has been deemed “problematic.” It always was problematic, but only in the “kids probably shouldn’t be bopping to this” kind of way.
- Whoever owns the rights to the song probably wanted massive money. After all, you have literally the only Barbie song in the world, so how much could you make off of it for a Barbie movie, right? I’m guessing Aqua is still around in some form, so maybe they’ll give us an answer.

The original song has over a billion views on YouTube, so we’ll offer you the link to help Aqua’s YouTube channel out. Clearly they could use our extra boost.
