Crowds Disappear: Labor Day Lines Are Way Down for Disney World

The lines for Magic Kingdom are surprisingly under twenty minutes on average for all rides on Labor Day. Meanwhile, the Starcruiser is struggling.

It’s hard to say what this means in a greater context, but for those who are at Disney World today, it seems that wait times are way down. That’s because in a major surprise, there’s just not much in the way of attendance for this Labor Day holiday. The biggest crowds are currently at Hollywood Studios where there are multiple attractions over the hour-wait mark. But elsewhere, there are very few rides drawing significant queue times.

Thanks to Thrill Data’s awesome record-keeping, we can tell you that the average wait time around all of Disney World parks is under forty minutes. That’s impressive for a holiday. What’s even more remarkable is that much of that is being driven by Hollywood Studios crowds, which is easily the most attended park for today. Over at the Magic Kingdom, the wait times have dropped to an average seventeen minutes per ride — that’s just unbelievable! Who would have ever thought that Labor Day at Magic Kingdom would have crowd-levels similar to a Tuesday in late January?

We’ve been tracking the sudden decline in attendance at Walt Disney World as international guests have slowed way down and domestic guests seem to not be filling in the void. Although special events are doing well, regular attendance has become abysmal in the last two weeks.

With school starting back for Florida students, as well as United Kingdom students who were flocking to Disney all summer, it may be a tough time for Disney to attempt selling Genie+ to guests. It’s hard to convince people of the value of line skips when there aren’t lines to begin with!

As for attendance of the Galactic Starcruiser, we’re told that the experience ran its first under-capacity “voyage” at the end of August… and is two-days away from doing it again!

Our recommendation? Run, don’t walk, to get a reservation in for Disney World before mid-October if you want to see sparse crowds, low lines and plenty of great photo opportunities. Oh, and if you’re in Hollywood Studios today… seriously… park hop out of there. You’ll be happy you did so!

Not sure how the differences play out for Disneyland but I was there on Saturday and it really wasn’t anywhere near as full as I expected it to be.

If low crowds continue, Disney will remove the anti-consumer policies (park hop after 2 and reservations).
