Will Daredevil: Born Again continue beyond season 2? The stars of the show have offered conflicting reports.
Daredevil: Born Again has become a contentious focal point for fans, marking the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

The show, which premiered its first season earlier this year on Disney+, has drawn heavy criticism from devotees of the beloved Netflix series that ran from 2015 to 2018, with many accusing it of softening the original’s gritty action, moral complexity, and character depth in favor of broader MCU integration.
It also failed to chart on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming originals or even the broader Top 100 list during its run, signaling underwhelming viewership metrics amid Marvel’s ongoing challenges with Disney+ series performance.
However, recent statements from the two leads have sparked confusion and debate about whether the series will extend beyond its upcoming second season.
Background on the Revival and Production
Daredevil: Born Again marks the official continuation of the Daredevil saga within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), following the integration of the Netflix Defenders characters into the broader franchise. The series underwent a significant creative overhaul midway through production of its first season, shifting to better align with the tone and canon of the original Netflix run.

@Daredevil Born Again.
That’s a wrap folks.
Cannot wait for all you DD fans to experience what we’ve all done for you.

Production on Season 2 wrapped in July 2025, as announced by D’Onofrio on X, where he expressed excitement about the escalating storyline and the challenges faced by the cast and crew. Both actors have teased that Season 2 will delve into darker territories, with Cox calling it “some of my favorite stuff I’ve read” and D’Onofrio hinting at “something quite amazing” by the end.
Charlie Cox’s Comments: Hinting at an End?
The controversy began when Charlie Cox, during an appearance at Galaxy Con in late July 2025, referred to Season 2 as the “final season.”
While discussing a unique element introduced in the show—not present in the comics—Cox stated, “There’s something that we do in this final season that doesn’t exist in the comics. So it is unique to our show and I’m pretty excited about that.”

This casual remark sent ripples through the fan community, suggesting that Born Again might conclude after its second outing, much like some other MCU series that have been limited to one or two seasons.
Entertainment outlets picked up on the statement, interpreting it as a hint that Marvel might not pursue further seasons, especially amid the studio’s efforts to streamline its Disney+ output and the show’s lackluster performance.
This comes on the heels of Cox’s earlier comments about the show’s overhaul, where he revealed that the initial plan was for a “reset” variant of the characters, disconnected from the Netflix canon, before fan feedback and creative changes tied it back in.
Vincent D’Onofrio’s Counter: Hope for More Seasons
In contrast, Vincent D’Onofrio has been more optimistic about the show’s longevity. Responding directly to fan inquiries on X following Cox’s comments, D’Onofrio clarified that Season 2 is not intended as the end. He stated there’s a “good chance” for a third season, emphasizing that the series could continue as long as Marvel and Disney+ desire.

This echoes his previous teases about Season 2’s narrative, where he described the city “igniting” and the cast rising to new challenges, implying room for further development.
D’Onofrio’s persistence in advocating for the characters is well-documented. Even before the revival was announced, he was vocal about believing in a return, despite Cox once calling him “delusional” for holding out hope after the Netflix cancellation.

His recent posts on X, including behind-the-scenes glimpses and enthusiasm for the project’s direction, reinforce his belief in an extended run.
Fan Reactions and Implications for the MCU
The discrepancy has ignited discussions across social media and fan forums. Some interpret Cox’s words as a slip-up or contractual caution, while others see D’Onofrio’s response as a deliberate effort to keep hope (if any still exists for this show) alive.

Threads on X highlight the confusion, with users questioning why the leads seem out of sync. This isn’t the first time the duo’s dynamic has fueled speculation; their off-screen friendship and mutual admiration have been evident in interviews, where they’ve discussed the evolution of their roles.
For the MCU, the fate of Daredevil: Born Again could signal shifts in Disney+’s strategy. With Marvel focusing on quality over quantity post-overhaul, extending an unpopular series like this one might depend on viewership metrics and fan demand.
Looking Ahead
As of August 13, 2025, Marvel has not officially commented on plans beyond Season 2, set to premiere next year.

Whether Cox’s “final season” remark was a misstep or a hint at closure, and D’Onofrio’s optimism proves prophetic, remains to be seen as we wait for Daredevil: Born Again season 2.

Like so many other properties, this one ceased to exist once it departed from the OG material. DD born again shouldn’t even be considered a successor to the Netflix series. The creator clearly didn’t learn anything about its success and is likely to double down on all the fails from DD:BA S1.
Please, put a bullet in the brainpan and let it go. In fact, Disney should just let Marvel settle until they can get back in touch with the storytelling that made a couple of great Netflix shows and pushed a ton of movies past the billion dollar mark.
Do that, and prove that they know how it is done, then we can talk about a Season 3.
But as long as Fiege is in charge, all that is just wishful thinking.
Ah. Daredevil. Never, still, seen a 3-D emulation of my boy. I’ll always still have the Miller run.
I’m hoping that it’s just wishful thinking on the part of Vincent. They’ve done more than enough damage to Daredevil.
