When Jimmy Kimmel returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC after nearly a week-long suspension, all eyes were on whether he would issue a direct apology for his comments about Charlie Kirk’s murder. The question on everyone’s mind was simple: did Jimmy Kimmel apologize?

The short answer: no—not in the way many were expecting.

The Backdrop: A Suspension That Rocked Disney

Kimmel was suspended after his September 15th monologue, where he claimed conservatives were “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.” But by the time Kimmel took the stage, authorities had already released evidence disproving that narrative. Investigators had found inscriptions on bullet casings with “anti-fascist” messaging, that the accused lived with a romantic partner who is biologically male and identifies as female, and early textual evidence indicating ideological tension.

In other words, Kimmel’s remarks ignored the facts that were already available.

Disney defended its move to pull the show, saying some comments were “ill-timed and thus insensitive,” and that production was paused “to avoid further inflaming a tense situation.” That decision came amid FCC pressure, sustained station boycotts from Sinclair and Nexstar, and intense backlash from viewers and advertisers.

The stage was set: if Kimmel was to return, the expectation was for an apology.

Tears Without Contrition

Kimmel opened his first monologue back with a telling remark: “I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference.”

He openly wept, paused for standing ovations, and tried to reset the narrative.

At one point, he declared: “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.”

He added: “Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions. It was a deeply disturbed individual.”

That last line is striking—because it’s a reversal from his original framing. But rather than directly admit wrongdoing, Kimmel reframed his remarks as misunderstood.

It’s a classic case of “I’m sorry you didn’t understand what I was saying…”

He praised Erika Kirk for her forgiveness, calling her “an example we should follow.” But after that brief gesture, the monologue turned back to divisive political attacks.

Attacks on Trump and the FCC

Kimmel blasted President Donald Trump for trying to “cancel” him, mocked FCC Chair Brendan Carr for criticizing him, and claimed pressure to silence his show was “anti-American.”

According to The Washington Post, he cast himself as the real victim of censorship, chiding local affiliates for pulling the plug on his program. For Disney, which hoped the controversy would end with his return, this was a bold and risky move.

Kimmel made it clear: he wasn’t going to back down.

Conservative Reactions: “Not Good Enough”

If Kimmel thought tears would win over critics, he was mistaken.

Conservative voices close to the Kirk family and beyond blasted the performance as hollow.

  • Andrew Kolvet, a close friend of Charlie Kirk and producer of his show, said Kimmel’s remarks were “not good enough.”
  • Jack Posobiec dismissed the monologue as “fake crying” and manipulation.
  • Benny Johnson labeled Kimmel a “sick liar.”
  • Rob Schneider accused him of a “semi-apology” that twisted facts to deflect blame.
  • Jerry Dunleavy, a journalist, said Kimmel was “absolutely falsely insinuating” ideology and now trying to cover his tracks.
  • James Woods condemned Kimmel for smearing conservatives in his earlier remarks.

These reactions show that for many, Kimmel’s clarifications only deepened the offense. Instead of rebuilding trust, he may have widened the gulf.

Did Jimmy Kimmel Apologize?

By every reasonable measure, the answer remains no. He cried, he clarified, and he denied blaming any group—but he never said the words, “I apologize” and the only time he said “I’m sorry” was in a scripted bit with Robert DeNiro that was mocking Trump and the FCC. Instead, he tried to reframe his remarks as misinterpreted while simultaneously attacking Trump and the Brendan Carr.

He came close to an apology at one point, starting with: “I understand that to some, that felt either ill-timed or unclear, or maybe both. And for those who think I did point a finger…”

No, at this point, you might think that the next two words would be “I apologize,” but you’d be wrong.

“…I get why you’re upset. If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way.” He then goes on to talk about all the threats that he gets in his life.

“I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my co-workers because of what I choose to say … And I know those threats don’t come from the kind of people on the right who I know and love. So that’s what I wanted to say on that subject. But I don’t want to make this about me …”

The irony, of course, being that he had just made it all about him.

A real apology would have been direct: “I was wrong, and I apologize to the Kirk family and to those I unfairly maligned.” That moment never came.

The Fallout Isn’t Over

Sinclair and Nexstar continue to withhold Jimmy Kimmel Live! from their affiliates. That means millions of Americans still cannot watch his show on broadcast television, no matter how ABC spins it. For Disney, that’s a major headache, as advertisers pay for reach, not controversy.

Progressives hailed Kimmel’s defense of free speech. Conservatives saw it as crocodile tears. And Disney remains caught in the middle, trying to appease both sides while holding together a late-night brand now permanently tied to political firestorms.

So, did Jimmy Kimmel apologize? No—he offered tears, clarifications, and denials. But not accountability.

For his supporters, that may be enough. For critics, it only confirms that Kimmel has no interest in humility or healing divides. And for Disney, it’s proof that this saga is far from over.

Some Loser

The man has shown he can cry on demand before, I don’t trust him. Until he says that his was not only wrong but outright lied like the rest of the media, I’ll continue to believe he’s a snake.

Bunny With A Keyboard

He’s already shown that he can lie on the air and ABC won’t get rid of him. That says it all.

CleatusDefeatus

Has anyone else noticed this guy gets the most upvotes, by saying absolutely noting at all? Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe most viewers on here share that same, blank stare, with nothing to say.

WOKE!!! = BAD.

To much applause and fanfare.

Anybody else, original, out there?

I’m kinda digging FRISH.

CleatusDefeatus

This is such a win. He’s still not televised by two large affiliates. His audience is so myopic and insignificant, so he has no ‘love’. Nobody wants him anywhere near a TV camera, yet pussy iger caves because the devil, eisner, made a derogatory comment regarding his leadership. Which iger ultimately proved, he has none since he flop-flipped on the suspension. Other than van jones, whoopsi, han solo, and dickhead deniro, nobody wants to hear any thing out of this hen-pecked ball-less…… “man” ever again.
Plus disney is the real villain. Despised, now, by both sides. I’m frankly shocked iger hasn’t been terminated with malice, nor offed hisself.

CleatusDefeatus

This scumbag hasn’t an ounce of self-awareness. I wish he could see himself as I, and countless millions do. To feel the hate that radiates.

devilman013

He keeps mouthing off the way he does, maybe someday he will.

devilman013

Claims Trump tried to silence him, and yet he’s back on the air. Wouldn’t the President of the United States put a stop to that if Kimmel was right?
