Almost-forever CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, is stepping down this week and new leadership is filling in the vacuum. After Wall Street moguls helped guide the company towards picking Josh D’Amaro as his replacement, they also sought to quell possible consternation from Hollywood and ideological creatives by giving Dana Walden (close friend of former Vice President Kamala Harris) total control over everything media entertainment. Now, Walden is making an early move that is likely to worry those same Wall Street investors interested in moderating the company’s politics and getting out of divisive kids content.
Enter Debra OConnell.

OConnell is a longtime senior executive at The Walt Disney Company, with nearly three decades of experience primarily in television operations, sales, news, and entertainment networks. As of March 16, 2026, she serves as Chairman of Disney Entertainment Television, a newly created role in a major company restructuring. She oversees the business and operations of Disney’s U.S. television portfolio, including ABC Entertainment, Disney Branded Television, Hulu Originals, 20th Television (and 20th Television Animation in part), National Geographic Content, FX (with some direct reporting lines), ABC News, and ABC Owned Television Stations, plus related ad sales and platform distribution for television properties. She continues to supervise ABC News operations and reports to Dana Walden, who was elevated to President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Entertainment under incoming CEO Josh D’Amaro (as Bob Iger transitions out).
Surely, then, Debra OConnell must be quite the person to be elevated to a brand-new position created just under Dana Walden, right? After all, she’s now overseeing all of Disney’s news division, original television (including on streaming), and is essentially in charge of all media content not theatrical or gaming.
Well… what if we told you that OConnell is also someone who, according to her LinkedIn profile, has partnered in the past with GLSEN and GLAAD, both in campaigns regarding children?

GLSEN, in particular, touts its Safe Schools Improvement Act as the signature legislation it is trying to have turned into law. The legislation is often seen as a Trojan Horse effort to codify into federal grant money the requirement that children of all biological backgrounds be able to play in any sport they wish, effectively destroying women’s sports:
“(b) Policies.—A State that receives a grant under this title shall require all local educational agencies in the State to carry out the following:
“(1) Establish policies that prevent and prohibit conduct, including bullying and harassment, that—
“(A) limits a student’s ability to participate in, or benefit from, a program or activity of a public school or local educational agency; or
At a time when Disney is reportedly trying to get away from sociopolitical issues in family content, Dana Walden is promoting someone into a brand-new role who seems well-aligned to undermine Wall Street’s goals.
This promotion unifies Disney’s television brands under one leader amid a broader reorganization that folds streaming, studios, TV, and games into an expanded Disney Entertainment segment. In her internal memo, O’Connell emphasized collaboration: “One of the greatest privileges of working for The Walt Disney Company is the ability to serve alongside exceptionally talented people across every team and facet of our work. The creativity, innovation and collaboration I’ve witnessed throughout my nearly three decades with the company continue to inspire me every day.” She also noted being “energized and humbled” by the team shaping the future through storytelling.

Her direct reports in the new structure include executives such as Craig Erwich (now also overseeing 20th Television alongside ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals), Ayo Davis (Disney Branded Television), Courteney Monroe (National Geographic Content), Rita Ferro (ad sales for TV), and platform distribution leadership, with ABC News and stations heads (Almin Karamehmedovic and Chad Matthews) continuing in place.
O’Connell joined Disney’s television division in 1999 after starting in sales and marketing at ABC Radio. She built her career through progressive roles focused on local stations, national sales, advertising, and operations:
- Early roles (1999–2014): Vice President of Marketing at WABC-TV; various sales and marketing positions.
- 2014–2017: President, National TV Sales, ABC Owned Stations Group.
- ~2017–2018: Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Disney|ABC consolidated advertising sales group (involved in major ad sales restructuring across ABC, Freeform, and Disney Channels).
- 2018–~2020/2021: President and General Manager of WABC-TV New York (the #1-rated local station in the U.S.). She maintained its dominance in viewership, managed ancillary businesses and the syndicated show Live with Kelly and Ryan (later Live with Kelly Ripa), and launched innovative connected TV (CTV) apps to bridge traditional broadcast and digital audiences.
- Post-2020 network leadership: Promoted to oversee Disney’s network business operations and P&L responsibilities for properties including ABC, Disney Channels, FX, Freeform, and National Geographic.
- February 2024: Elevated to President, ABC News Group & Disney Entertainment Networks (also called President, News Group and Networks). This combined ABC News, ABC Owned Television Stations, and broader network business strategy under one vertical to adapt to digital and streaming platforms. She integrated ABC News Live into the Disney+ bundle (boosting engagement) and navigated challenges like the $15 million settlement with then-President-elect Donald Trump over on-air comments by George Stephanopoulos. ABC News President and stations leadership reported to her.
O’Connell is deeply involved in industry and community organizations:
- Chairman of the Board, TVB (Television Bureau of Advertising; earlier executive board member).
- Leadership roles at IRTS Foundation (Chairman 2018–2021, Vice Chairman earlier, now Ex-Officio; focused on access, education, and diversity for future media leaders).
- Advisory Board Member, Ryan Seacrest Foundation.
- Board Member, The Broadway Association.
- Advisory Board, League of Women Voters NYC.
- Active supporter of Disney Voluntears and civil rights/social action initiatives.
She has been recognized in lists like Variety500 and CableFax’s Most Powerful Women in Cable. Her work spans traditional TV, streaming adaptation, and local-to-national leadership.

All of this is to say… if you were thinking that Disney is ready to abandon sociopolitical messaging in family content, maybe hold off on betting that way. It looks as if Dana Walden, a very savvy and politically motivated executive, is putting the kind of personnel in place to keep Disney in the kind of place where they can quickly pivot back. After all, the pendulum could shift in both electoral power and Wall Street influence in just another political cycle. Good thing Walden also controls Disney’s ABC News to point in that direction.

You mean elevating Bob’s minions will just change nothing??? Who could have saw that coming?
I don’t know who thought Disney is going to change after Iger. The company is full of feminists and other propagandists at all levels, so until all of them are removed, nothing will change.
The trick is that the faggot brigade never actually left. Not sure why people expected anything different. Vox Day’s books on SJWs tells us we must purge ALL people and relationships from your company or the cancer will metastasize.
There was no chance Disney had the stomach for that, especially considering how many deviants and liberal white women they employee.
Mums, don’t let your kids near any Disney shows made after 2000. They’re designed explicitly to be manipulative: to make your kids gay and woke.
I think we will see the complete collapse of Disney before 2050.
