Disney has officially announced Soarin Across America, a brand-new version of its “Soarin” attraction, coming to both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World in the summer of 2026. The new experience will replace the current Soarin Around the World film at Disney California Adventure and EPCOT’s The Land pavilion, marking a return to the skies with an all-new flight across the United States.

The announcement was made through the official Disney Parks Blog, accompanied by details from Walt Disney Imagineering about the project’s scope and connection to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.

A Coast-to-Coast Flight Experience

Soarin Across America will invite guests to take flight over some of the most iconic natural and man-made landmarks in the nation. According to Disney, the film will showcase “more than a dozen breathtaking U.S. locations,” seamlessly stitched together into one cinematic journey that celebrates the beauty and diversity of the country.

The ride will feature the same motion-based “flying theater” system that made the original Soarin Over California and Soarin Around the World so popular. Guests will once again be lifted into the air before a massive concave screen, experiencing synchronized motion, wind, and scent effects as they soar over the landscapes below.

Disney Imagineering emphasized that this version will focus entirely on America’s “past, present, and future,” positioning it as a patriotic tribute in honor of the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial in 2026.

Behind the Scenes of a Massive Production

Filming for Soarin Across America has already begun. Imagineering revealed that the production crew is traveling across the United States to capture authentic aerial footage. To achieve the sweeping visuals that define the Soarin experience, the team is employing a combination of helicopters, drones, and gyro-stabilized camera rigs.

Disney says that each filming location has been meticulously scouted and planned, with 33 separate cases of specialized camera equipment shipped across the country to ensure consistency in lighting, angles, and motion. The creative team describes the project as a love letter to the American landscape, designed to transition fluidly between coastal beaches, mountain peaks, sprawling plains, and bustling city skylines.

One Walt Disney Imagineering spokesperson explained, “Our goal was to offer guests a sampling of the diversity of America’s beauty and urban wonders, using continuous camera movement to smoothly transition between scenes.”

Though no specific locations have been confirmed, concept materials and behind-the-scenes photos suggest stops could include national parks, major monuments, and both coasts—perhaps even a another fireworks finale.

What Guests Can Expect

Soarin Across America will retain the ride system, queue, and loading area familiar to fans of previous Soarin versions. The major changes will center on the film itself.

The ride’s hallmark “scent-scape” — which has previously included the smell of orange groves, pine forests, and ocean spray — is expected to return, this time keyed to distinctly American environments. Imagineers have hinted at new scent profiles tied to specific regions, potentially evoking desert sage, mountain evergreens, and coastal breezes.

While Disney did not explicitly confirm Patrick Warburton’s continued role in the official announcement, the company did feature him in the reveal video for Soarin Across America — a strong indication that the fan-favorite chief flight attendent is here to stay.

Is Soarin Across America Permanent or Limited-Time?

One point of confusion emerging from the announcement concerns whether Soarin Across America is a permanent replacement or a limited-time offering. The official Disney Parks Blog post makes no mention of a time limit, presenting the attraction as a full, nationwide celebration. However, in the accompanying announcement video, actor Patrick Warburton refers to the new version as “a limited-time sea-to-shining-sea itinerary.”

That single phrase has sparked debate among Disney fans. Some interpret it as confirmation that the new film is a temporary overlay tied to America’s 250th anniversary, while others believe the “limited-time” line was simply promotional language rather than a definitive statement of duration.

Historically, Disney has alternated between temporary and permanent Soarin updates. For example, Soarin Over California returned to both coasts in recent years as a limited engagement before reverting to Soarin Around the World. Given the large-scale filming effort and dual-park rollout for Soarin Across America, it’s possible that Disney intends this to be the next long-term version — but the company has stopped short of making that explicit.

For now, guests should consider it the next iteration of the attraction, debuting during the 2026 anniversary celebrations. Whether it remains indefinitely or eventually rotates with previous films may depend on guest reception and operational decisions in the years following its launch.

A Surprising Return to Americana

Beyond the technical aspects, Soarin Across America represents something more symbolic — a subtle but significant re-embrace of Disney’s American identity. In recent years, many long-time parkgoers have felt that Disney was quietly erasing some of the Americana that once defined its parks. Attractions like Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America — cornerstones of Walt Disney’s vision of frontier exploration and patriotism — have been closed, reduced, or reimagined in ways that move away from the classic American storytelling that once set Disney apart.

Yet this new version of Soarin does the opposite. It celebrates America itself — not as a side note, but as the main attraction. The film promises to capture the heart of the nation, from its landscapes to its cities, without irony or apology. It feels like a genuine attempt to rekindle that sense of pride and wonder that Walt Disney himself poured into his original parks.

For EPCOT, a park long centered on global unity, this attraction’s national focus could serve as a reminder that celebrating one’s own country need not come at the expense of others. And for Disneyland — a park often called Walt’s personal love letter to America — the timing could not be more fitting. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Disney seems to be rediscovering its roots and leaning back into the same spirit that inspired Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Main Street U.S.A., and The American Adventure.

It’s a small step, perhaps, but one that feels unmistakably patriotic. In an era when many companies shy away from overtly American themes, Disney’s decision to highlight the nation’s landscapes and history feels like a return to form — an acknowledgment that embracing what’s uniquely American was always part of the magic.

A National Celebration in Flight

The timing of the new attraction is deliberate. Soarin Across America will debut during the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026, alongside a series of nationwide events commemorating the milestone. Disney’s decision to align the new attraction with the semiquincentennial gives it additional symbolic weight — a showcase of American splendor and spirit for millions of guests from around the world.

For EPCOT in particular, the new film complements the park’s broader mission of innovation, exploration, and unity. The attraction’s theme also ties naturally into The Land pavilion’s focus on global harmony and appreciation for Earth’s beauty.

In California, Soarin Across America serves as a successor to the original Soarin Over California, the 2001 ride that helped define Disney California Adventure’s identity. While Soarin Around the World expanded the scope to an international journey, this return to an American focus offers a nostalgic yet modernized take for long-time fans.

Looking Ahead

Disney has not yet confirmed an exact opening date for Soarin Across America, but both Disneyland and EPCOT are expected to unveil the updated experience during the summer season of 2026.

Until then, Soarin Around the World will continue to operate at both parks. Once the switchover happens, guests can expect the new version to draw heavy crowds and long wait times, especially during its debut months.

As one of Disney’s most beloved attractions — combining flight simulation with film, music, and scent to produce genuine awe — Soarin Across America represents both a celebration of the past and a bold step forward for the franchise. And for the first time in years, it might also signal a company looking once again to the stars and stripes for inspiration.
