Bad Bunny is heading to infinity and beyond in Toy Story 5 — whether longtime Pixar fans want him there or not.

According to a new report from People, the Puerto Rican music superstar has joined the voice cast of Toy Story 5 in what may be one of the strangest character concepts the franchise has ever introduced: a toy literally called “Pizza with Sunglasses.”

Disney describes the character as “effortlessly cool and mysterious,” adding that the toy lives among a forgotten group of abandoned playthings hidden away in a backyard shed.

Why Bad Bunny Has Become a Divisive Celebrity Figure

The Toy Story casting announcement comes as Bad Bunny remains an increasingly divisive celebrity figure following the controversy surrounding his Super Bowl halftime show performance earlier this year. While mainstream entertainment media largely praised the show, critics blasted the performance across social media and conservative commentary circles, arguing it leaned heavily into political messaging and identity-focused symbolism that alienated portions of the audience.

That backlash has transformed Bad Bunny from simply a chart-topping artist into a more openly polarizing pop culture figure — something Disney and Pixar now appear willing to embrace as part of Toy Story 5’s marketing strategy.

Disney Continues Leaning Into Celebrity Stunt Casting

To some fans, the casting already feels less like organic storytelling and more like modern Hollywood’s ongoing obsession with celebrity stunt casting.

After all, Toy Story was once built around timeless character performances and emotional storytelling rather than headlines designed to generate social media chatter. Now the newest addition to the franchise is a sunglass-wearing pizza slice voiced by one of the most politically charged entertainers in modern music.

That does not necessarily mean the role itself will be large. According to the report, Bad Bunny’s part is described as a “voice cameo.” But the announcement is clearly intended to generate buzz around the sequel as Disney attempts to reignite excitement for a franchise that many believed had already reached a satisfying conclusion years ago.

Toy Story 5 Already Faces an Uphill Battle

The film itself appears poised to lean heavily into modern themes. Disney has already revealed that Toy Story 5 will focus on technology invading children’s playtime, with the toys confronting a world increasingly dominated by screens and electronic entertainment.

Returning cast members include Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, and Tony Hale as Forky. New additions include Greta Lee, Conan O’Brien, and Alan Cumming.

Pixar clearly hopes the combination of nostalgia, celebrity cameos, and topical themes will help drive audiences back to theaters when the movie releases on June 19, 2026.

But judging by the already mixed reaction online, Bad Bunny’s involvement may end up creating just as much division as excitement.
