Yet another earth-shattering move at Disney. The Chair of the Board of Directors has been tossed aside and replaced by the Nike CEO.

This is a breaking story. We will have more as more information is released.

Chapek was fired unceremoniously in a coup orchestrated by former Disney CEO Bob Iger and current CFO Christine McCarthy. The firing so early in his tenure occurred just minutes before most Disney executives were in attendance at a Disney+ live presentation of Elton John’s farewell performance. Mark Parker is the former CEO and current executive chairman of Nike. He brings with him a wealth of experience and relationships in working with China, a major and controversial partner of the Disney company during Bob Iger’s tenure. It is possible that Parker has eyes on the Disney CEO position once Iger’s return as interim CEO is completed, although some have jokingly proposed that Iger will never leave.

This shift coincides with high profile moves in the Disney Parks division by fan favorite Josh D’Amaro, who has announced the end of the infamous Disney resort parking charges that Chapek instituted under his tenure, as well a easing park reservation restrictions for annual pass holders and reducing the park-hopping time from 2:00 pm to earlier in the day.

The head of the Walt Disney Company Board of directors, Susan Arnold, has been replaced by Mark Parker, the executive chairman of Nike. Arnold has been on the board for 15 years, with some outlets pointing that tenure as a reason for her departure today. However, the sudden announcement of the change with no prior press is of some mystery to those of us at That Park Place.Arnold is notable for her short tenure as Chairman of the Board and being the spearhead of the unanimous decision to renew Bob Chapek in July of 2022 and the sudden reversal in November of last year.
