Disney Continues Trying to Create Interest in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Thus far, Disney has not succeeded in convincing future guests that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a worthy successor to Splash Mountain. We know this because they’re desperately trying to advertise it with silly gimmicks.

The design for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and the screens / fog machines that go with it are complete. Yet you wouldn’t know that if you watched the latest video and read the latest update from Imagineering’s Carmen Smith. No, she has content showing that Imagineers are at Mardi Gras this year seeking even more inspiration. That’s simply not true. They may be in New Orleans, but it’s not to find out anything additional. It’s just a PR exercise, and if this were a healthy project with customer anticipation, this type of fluff wouldn’t be necessary.

Instead, the destruction of Splash Mountain is turning into a disaster for Disney. But unlike movie flops or subscriber slow-downs, we’re all going to be stuck with a hand-me-down, low-budget “reimagining” of a beloved E-Ticket attraction for decades to come. It’s Journey Into Imagination all over again, only this time with a ride that was one of the most popular in any Disney theme park. And no amount of public statements about a fake water tower are going to change that.

Here’s the fluff which will have zero impact on the ride (because it’s already designed, planned and parts ordered):

We have exciting news! Construction on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure continues to take shape, and later this summer, a tiara-topped water tower emblazoned with the Tiana’s Foods logo will make its way to Magic Kingdom.

Disney Parks guests will get to experience Princess Tiana’s story like never before following the attraction’s debut at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort in 2024, and what a party it will be! The story will pick up where the film left off as guests join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure down the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration during Mardi Gras season where everyone is welcome. Along the way, guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film.

Our team of Imagineers recently traveled to New Orleans to capture the true essence of the Mardi Gras celebration, the energy, the colors, the rhythms of the music, all that and more to infuse into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to create lots of memorable fun for guests!

Why do they need until 2024 to open it at WDW? Maybe they want to open both since Disneyland hasn’t started yet, but that would be a bad idea. Just open one. Keep Disneyland’s Splash Mountain. WDW already closed many classic dark rides like Mr. Toad’s and Snow White. The Disney theme parks are getting more like Universal with screens, while Universal is getting more like Disney with animatronics.
