Ready for another Disney live-action movie revisiting a classic villain? The Walt Disney Company is developing a live-action feature film centered on Gaston, a character introduced in Beauty and the Beast. The film is intended to focus on the egotistical Gaston as a central figure, expanding on the character outside the original story framework.
Creative Team Attached
Dave Callaham has been hired to write the screenplay. Callaham has worked on large-scale studio films, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Wonder Woman 1984. Michelle Rejwan is attached as producer. Rejwan currently holds an overall deal with Disney and has produced projects across film and television.

Disney has not announced a director for the film. The studio also has not released information about the film’s tone, rating, or intended audience.
Luke Evans, who portrayed Gaston in Disney’s 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast, is not expected to return. Disney plans to recast the role, though the company has not commented publicly on potential actors or supporting roles.

Gaston in Live Action – Disney+
Gaston first appeared in Disney’s 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast. The character served as the primary antagonist and later appeared in the 2017 live-action adaptation. In both, he appears as the brawny hunter who has all the ladies’ attention in town, all except Belle’s that is. His relentless pursuit despite her rejections comes to a head when he leads the town to destroy the Beast.
The new film will revisit the character outside those narratives.
Previous Gaston Projects
Disney previously explored a Gaston-focused television series. That project was announced as a prequel series and would have starred Luke Evans. The studio later halted development, and the series did not move forward.

The latest remakes, Snow White (2025), grossed roughly $205 million worldwide against an estimated $200 million–plus production budget, making it one of the poorest box office performers among recent live-action remakes.
Gaston in Beauty And The Beast – Disney+
Gaston will join Maleficient and Cruella de Vil as Disney Villain’s getting their own film spotlighting, and perhaps and reframing, their story.
At this stage, the Gaston film remains in development. Further details about casting, production timing, or distribution have not been confirmed.

This is peak desperation by Mouse House. Gaston is a two-dimensional character even in Beauty and the Beast, a throwaway character meant to show how the Beast is not the worst possible option for Belle. Plus he’s a white man, which goes completely against the grain for woke Disney.
Let me guess; It will be a prequel where they will justify his evilness by showing that he was previously a good man who was misunderstood and treated badly by everyone to the point of becoming evil. And OBVIOUSLY he will be black.
Yes all the bad guys are good guys now, morals out the window.
Since Disney left the classic fairy-tale storytelling of good vs bad behind long ago, of course every villain can be turned into just being misunderstood. You see, it is so much easier to sell a character (and their merch) if he/she isn’t really evil. Just, well… misunderstood, you know. Cash grab within a cash grab, nothing more.
