He is undoubtedly the most prolific and storied movie composer of the last half-century. Now, John Williams is receiving the theatrical and streaming ovation he so richly deserves. According to a press release from The Walt Disney Company, the documentary is shared production between Lucasfilm Ltd, Amblin Documentaries, and Imagine Documentaries and will offer ” a fascinating and insightful look at the prolific life and career of composer and Disney Legend John Williams.”
It specifically reveals that the film will receive “a limited theatrical release in New York, Los Angeles, and London on November 1” as well as premiering on Disney‘s streaming service, Disney+.
Furthermore, the film will open the 38th annual AFI Fest on October 23rd.

Key art for Music By John Williams (2024), Lucasfilm
Given the film is a combined effort of Lucasfilm and Amblin, and the fact that Kennedy is producing it’s clear this is her production through and through. She is the head of Lucasfilm, her husband the head of Amblin. While the documentary is a send-up of John Williams, it likewise could be a send-off of Kathleen Kennedy as well.
Her beleaguered efforts at Lucasfilm may come to a box office end with this documentary. After all, The Mandalorian & Grogu — the next box office bound Star Wars film — is not due until 2026… and Kathleen Kennedy would be 73 years old at its release. No other box office releases are planned for Lucasfilm between then and now.
For Kennedy, she is able to honor Williams with a documentary, but it’s also a chance for her to rekindle the love for many films that both Kennedy and Williams worked on during a time when each is likely contemplating a move to a new future.
