Guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland experienced a rare occurrence this morning when attempting to access the parks’ mobile apps: Disney wouldn’t take their money.
An internal technical issue seems to have impacted Disney’s online point of sale system company wide, causing issues with online checkout for the Disneyland App, Walt Disney World’s My Disney Experience app, and DisneyStore.com. As a result, many guests were left stranded with no way to buy food, enter into restaurants, or otherwise stay hydrated beyond small cups of water. This bit of chaos lasted many hours on September 23rd!

The issue appears to be temporary with Disney working to resolve the problem and get back on track. Guests at Walt Disney World this morning received a pop-up notification in the My Disney Experience app which read, “Pardon the Inconvenience. Some of our payment options are unavailable, and only PayPal is available at this time in select flows. We’re actively working to resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
This created major issues for parks guests as the My Disney Experience app is the go-to hub for ordering quick service meals and purchasing Lightning Lane attraction access. It’s also home to the popular mobile checkout function for in-store merchandise purchases. This helps control check out lines in large merchandise stores like The Emporium on Main Street USA or the Creations shop in Epcot’s World Celebration neighborhood.
Disney Food Blog posted a video to X earlier today to show the issue in action.

As the user scrolls, you can see in the video above that no matter where they click, the same message pops up saying, “Either there are no mobile order locations currently available here or none that match your search filters. If you selected filters, try searching again with different filters.”
As of 2 pm EST, the mobile order issue seems to be resolved and guests are able to order food through the My Disney Experience app once more.

This kind of issue could cause major problems with theme park operations that might lead to a decrease in revenue for the day. Either in-person lines at merchandise stores and quick service food locations will see a massive surge, or guests might decide to forego spending their money on food or merchandise for the day to avoid the crowds.
Not to mention the loss in Lightning Lane revenue, which has become important to Disney’s bottom line due to lower than average park attendance.
