Disney Parks Scales Back Pride Month Offerings Tremendously

The Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort are celebrating “Pride Month” this June, but the offerings may underwhelm those expecting much more.

In the past, we’ve seen flamboyant displays at Walt Disney World for Pride Month. Merchandise, special events, character costumes and more have all been a part of the place where “Gay Days” began. But this year, the offerings have been slimmed down considerably. Instead of all that hoopla, Disney has a single wall and a few treats that are essentially already offered items with rainbow glaze added. Perhaps Mickey is concerned about some of the issues of the day arising with other companies like Target, Kohl’s, Budweiser and more?

From the Disney Parks Blog:

From the recent announcement of this year’s Disney Pride Collection to the delicious Pride Foodie Guide and everything in between—the attention to detail in bringing the magic to life for our guests is truly special.

And now for the fun part—I get to share with you my Pride Month favorites! There are so many exciting things happening across our parks to celebrate that it’s hard to pick, but here are my Top 5.

1. The teams designed so many fun photo walls across Walt Disney World Resort, and one of my favorites is the EPCOT wall with its distinctly “EPCOTian” design. Can’t wait to take photos in front of the walls with family and friends!

2. Find one of our wonderful Disney PhotoPass photographers to get your rainbow-themed photo ops, including some really fun Magic Shots.

3. Visit the Disney Springs Art Walk at Walt Disney World or the newly redesigned ‘Silletas’ floral displays at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort.

4. Do some Pride Collection shopping! I’ll be the one wearing a Disney Pride Collection Spirit Jersey.

5. Try some of the delicious food and beverages created just for the month. I’m really looking forward to trying the Pineapple Lanai Pride Float at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and the Pride Coconut Key Lime Pop at Gasparilla Island Grille at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

For whatever Disney might say publicly, this is far less than what you see for basically any other celebration at the Disney Parks. Whether or not this translates into another counter-backlash has yet to be seen. But it wouldn’t surprise anyone here, I don’t believe.

I went to Disneyland in June 1st and it was supposed to be the start of gay days. Surprisingly, I didn’t see any displays of gay days. Only thing was a couple wearing Disney gay pride t-shirts. Maybe they are getting the message. I didn’t go shopping in the stores nonetheless.

Why do you need a company to fawn all over you because of your sexuality?

Grow up.
