Disney Picks an Odd Fight with a Disney Parks News Site

Mickey Mouse is punching down in one of the snippiest and oddest fights you’ll come across…

Why in the world is The Walt Disney Company taking on Disney Parks news site, Walt Disney World News Today?

The article that seems to have triggered someone at Disney is one that covers CEO Bob Chapek dropping out of a Disney World event without any announcement. The article claims that Bob Chapek dropped over fears that he would be booed or heckled. It doesn’t seem that any writers at That Park Place have any information that can corroborate the claim. But that said, WDWNT follows Disney World very closely. They have their sources, and we’re not here to question them. Maybe that’s the reason why Bob Chapek dropped, and maybe it isn’t.

According to WDWNT, a Disney rep then reached out to them and other outlets to make the following statement:

Bob has a conflict in LA on Friday night and couldn’t make it back to Orlando on time.  Your post is ridiculous and you’ve really stooped to a new low by making this up.

If Disney has further comment on Chapek’s previously unannounced absence, we’ll cover it here. We have no way to verify at this time if the cancellation was out of fear, a medical issue, a scheduling conflict, or anything else. But if public comment makes its way out there, we’ll update you. It just seems odd for Disney to claim a site that covers their parks extensively with a huge following has “stooped to a new low”. It’s sort of reminiscent of the whole Black Widow Scarlett Johansson situation where Disney claimed she was acting immorally or unethically by even filing a lawsuit. Maybe whoever is in charge of the Disney public relations commentary needs to just calm down by three degrees. A simple, “Mr. Chapek has a scheduling conflict and there is no other cause for the change,” would have sufficed.
