Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to premiere an new stage production, “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After,” on May 27, 2025, at the Sunset Showcase Theater—formerly home to Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy.

This live musical show spotlights iconic Disney villains such as Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent, who break through the Magic Mirror to plead their case to the audience, seeking redemption and arguing they’ve been misunderstood . The Magic Mirror serves as both narrator and performer, guiding the story with a blend of dramatic theater, rock and roll, and gothic orchestral music.

The production features elaborate stage designs, immersive effects, and a dynamic score, promising a fresh perspective on these classic characters. It’s part of Disney’s broader initiative to offer more villain-centric experiences, complementing the upcoming Villains Land at Magic Kingdom.

For a behind-the-scenes look at the show’s development, including previews of the original music and creative process, you can watch the official Disney Parks video below:

For Disney, they’re hoping this will be a worthwhile reason for guests to choose Hollywood Studios over a day at Epic Universe. Let us know in the comments below if you think this was the right move for Disney in utilizing this space.

Disney has learned nothing. How many of those movies about infamous villains in Disney movies did well? What makes them think turning the same idea into a play is going to attract audiences?

I’ve compared what James Gunn is doing with the new Superman movie to him throwing everything at the wall in the hopes of something sticking. It looks like Disney is trying the same thing.

Disney’s brand is a joke, this will fail.
