Disney will roll out a meet and greet with Life Day Chewbacca, complete with his festive red robe at Jollywood Nights.
“Life Day” – ever heard of it? Unless you’re deep in the Star Wars fandom, probably not. Life Day is a holiday within the Star Wars universe that first appeared in the infamous and mostly forgotten 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special—a TV disaster so bad it aired only once on CBS before George Lucas reportedly tried to bury it forever. The holiday did get a tiny nod in The Mandalorian, but otherwise? It’s been collecting dust in the attic of Star Wars lore.

But now—because Disney never met an IP they couldn’t monetize—they’re suddenly resurrecting Life Day in a big way. This Christmas season at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Chewbacca will appear in a special Life Day meet & greet during the Jollywood Nights after-hours event, available on select nights in November and December 2025.
Jollywood Nights Exclusive: Life Day Chewbacca
Normally, guests can find Chewbacca in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge patrolling near the Millennium Falcon in his usual gear. But this meet and greet is different—because Chewy is dressing up for the holidays. Guests will meet Chewbacca in his red Life Day robe at Jollywood Nights, just like in the 1978 special.
Disney teased the appearance on Instagram:

So far, reactions from fans have ranged from, “This is awesome!” to “Wait… what’s Life Day?” Though, the vast majority of the reactions have been “bring back Ben Solo” — a response to a recent interview by Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) actor Adam Driver, that we recently covered here on That Park Place.
Who is This Even For?
Disney knows Star Wars has lost cultural momentum since its acquisition of Lucasfilm. The hardcore “superfans” still exist—but casual fans? Many have checked out. So who exactly is this Life Day Chewbacca at Jollywood Nights for? Is this really the best Disney can do to move tickets to its second after-hours Christmas party?
Disney’s Insta announcement pulled in 27,500 likes. Sounds solid—until you compare it to Hollywood Studios’ average daily attendance of 31,000 guests. For something being hyped as exclusive, engagement feels… lukewarm.
Star Wars superfan and longtime Disney host Mark Daniel jumped on the reveal, hyping it in a TikTok video:

But even Disney must know this is niche. Very niche. Like “I still have the bootleg Holiday Special taped off TV on VHS” niche.
What is Jollywood Nights Anyway?
First launched in 2023, Jollywood Nights is Hollywood Studios’ attempt at an upscale, adult-leaning holiday event. Think: vintage glam, jazz lounge vibes, and craft cocktails. It’s marketed as the classy alternative to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom.

Let’s be real—this event is aimed squarely at the DINK crowd (dual income, no kids). It’s one more example of Disney shifting focus away from families and toward adults who spend on alcohol and after-hours exclusives.
Is Life Day Chewbacca Enough to Sell Out Jollywood Nights?
In 2023, Jollywood Nights sold out six nights. In 2024, that number dropped to four. Not great momentum. So will 2025 see a rebound—or is the glow fading faster than Disney expected?
Disney is stacking the lineup with other “exclusive” characters:
- Bing Bong from Inside Out – Grand Avenue
- Partysaurus Rex from Toy Story – Toy Story Land
- Miguel from Coco – New Holiday Fiesta en la Calle near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Plus, of course, specialty cocktails at the event’s Twilight Soirée at The Tip Top Club.

But here’s the question: Is a deep-cut Star Wars cosplay version of Chewbacca really going to move tickets—or is it just bait for nostalgia-driven superfans Disney already knows will show up?
Final Thoughts=
Let’s call it what it is: Life Day Chewbacca is clever marketing—but weak strategy for moving Jollywood Nights tickets. It’s the kind of announcement designed to get quick social media buzz without taking any real creative risks. Instead of offering new shows, new parade elements, or fresh entertainment to justify steep ticket prices, Disney is relying on character photo-ops and IP recycling—the theme park equivalent of microwaving leftovers.

If Disney wants Jollywood Nights to survive long-term, it needs innovation—not obscurity gimmicks. Life Day Chewbacca will entertain hardcore Star Wars fans at Jollywood Nights, sure. But for the average guest paying $159–$199 for a five-hour event?
They’ll want more than a Wookiee in a red robe.
And if Disney isn’t careful, this event is going to have something else in common with the 1978 Holiday Special: People will forget it ever existed.

Will it make any sense to anyone except old fans? I mean, I guess they could re-release the holiday special (that would be awesome!) but would they really want to?
Hasn’t Star Wars taken enough dings over the last 8 or 9 years that they can afford to show the OG cast members trying to act in a cheesy Christmas special while high on enough nose candy to double Bolivia’s GDP that year?
Until bob iger and kat kennedy are gone, be prepared to drink out of the firehose for the self aggrandizement they’re prepared to shove upon you to ensure how great bob iger and kat kennedy actually are. I anticipate disney will embarrasses the academy with how they slather their own worthless leadership will false praise.
