The Walt Disney Company is beginning to ramp up marketing for changes to Splash Mountain. It would appear they have some work to do. Signs from the public are not such that Disney should expect excitement around the attraction modifications, and their recent Genie+ release was quite unpopular.
According to the details released by Disney, Splash Mountain will soon center around a celebration in the Bayou featuring the Princess and the Frog characters. This would seem to remove much of the suspense that is present in the current iteration featuring Song of the South narratives.
One of the biggest issues expressed about the Princess and the Frog changes has been that Disney has leaned into the need to represent minorities in the parks. Yet Disney has been taking steps that make it far less likely that minority families will be able to afford actually stepping inside their Magic Kingdom. There seems to be a continuing disconnect in this area that the public is beginning to notice.
With the NEW #ThePrincessandTheFrog attraction, Imagineers are hoping to change the game with their Audio-Animatronic figures! New scenic illusions and visual effects will create an immersive and seamless environment. 😃 #SplashMountain pic.twitter.com/VT0eQ5mikc
