Disney has announced that the remaining attractions using its controversial Virtual Queue system, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom, will transition to standby lines starting February 25, 2025. This marks the end of the Virtual Queue era across Walt Disney World parks (at least for now…), a move many fans have been demanding for years.
Since its debut in May 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, an immensely popular indoor roller coaster at EPCOT, has relied on the My Disney Experience app’s Virtual Queue system. Guests were required to secure a boarding group at exactly 7 a.m., a process that left many families stressed and frustrated. Those who missed the small window often faced the tough choice of either purchasing Lightning Lane access for the ride or missing out entirely. With the switch to a standby queue, all guests will now have an equal chance to experience the attraction simply by waiting in line.

While the standby queue will open on February 25, Disney will continue to offer Lightning Lane Single Passes for those who prefer to bypass the line. Guests staying late during Extended Evening Hours will also be able to join the standby line for the coaster, further enhancing accessibility.
This decision comes after TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom transitioned to a standby line in September 2024. Now, with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind joining the shift, EPCOT will be free of Virtual Queues as well.
The removal of the Virtual Queue system extends to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as well, which will also open a standby line on February 25. Since its controversial launch in summer 2024, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has struggled with its popularity. The ride, which reimagines Splash Mountain with a Princess and the Frog theme, faced criticism from day one. Many fans argued that due to its lukewarm reception and frequent technical issues, the attraction never warranted a Virtual Queue in the first place. Despite its new theming, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is often plagued by downtime and mechanical failures, leading to guest frustration.

Disney’s decision to implement a Virtual Queue for this ride was seen by some as an attempt to inflate its perceived demand. Now, after more than 240 days of operating under the system, the transition to a traditional standby line has sparked renewed debate.
Like with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Lightning Lane Multi Pass access will still be available for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. However, Magic Kingdom guests can now opt for a standby line without the stress of securing a virtual reservation at dawn.

With this update, Disney has effectively eliminated all Virtual Queues from its parks, finally addressing a major pain point for guests. The change ensures a more straightforward, equitable experience, allowing families to spend less time glued to their phones and more time enjoying the magic of Disney. Of course it’s alltogether possible and probable that Disney will roll out the virtual queue system again the next time it opens a new attraction.
