Walt Disney World is taking Hurricane Ian very seriously. As a result, we may see unprecedented efforts to protect guests and the resort.
Walt Disney World management is taking the extraordinary task of evacuating all of Fort Wilderness ahead of Hurricane Ian’s landfall. For now, this evacuation is voluntary for those staying at the site — however, we’re hearing that could change depending on the track of the storm. The campground has more than one-thousand “units” when considering both campsites and cabins. That makes for a seven-hundred acre campground that can house many thousands of people.
Not only is Disney preparing to evacuate the campground, but instructions revealed by WDWNT show that Disney is also keenly concerned about guests removing anything that could become debris. Disney is going to have cast members available to assist with removing anything from campers and recreational vehicles that might become airborne due to high winds. This is expected to be complete by Wednesday. We also expect that all guests will be moved from Fort Wilderness to other accommodations during the storm, expected to hit Florida on Thursday.
Here is the message that went out to all FW patrons:

The storm may bring high winds in this area beginning Wednesday, Sept. 28. as we continue to monitor the weather, we are asking that all Guests remove and stow all outside items, including tents and Halloween décor, and take in camper awnings. We ask for your assistance and cooperation in removing these items. The safety of our Guests and Cast is always our first priority and we will have Cast Members available to assist with these requests.
If you are camping in an tent and would like to discuss alternate options for your vacation, please contact the Front Desk.
We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, our Front Desk Cast Members will be happy to assist you and can be reached at 407-824-2727.
We will continue to provide coverage of the hurricane before, during and after its landfall, specifically covering its impact on theme parks and tourist destinations in Florida.
