Disney World published its 2026 calendar, but a few noticeable plans are absent from the line-up.

At  the moment, the 2026 full-year calendar for Walt Disney World Resort does not include any reference to the repainting of Cinderella Castle or the planned animatronic update at Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

The 2026 calendar, which outlines attraction openings, refurbishment periods, seasonal events, and other scheduled experiences, features a variety of updates planned for the year.

Background: What These Projects Are

At the Destination D23 event on August 31, 2025, Disney announced that Cinderella Castle would receive a “new” paint scheme. The castle has sported its pink tone for the last 5 years for the resort’s 50th anniversary. The repaint aims to return the castle to its original palette of grays, creams, blues, and gold accents.

The same event also featured confirmation of a major update for Carousel of Progress. The plan includes a new introductory scene featuring a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure and a reworked finale depicting a near-future environment with updated technology and revised set pieces.

Both projects drew significant attention due to their association with the park’s history. Cinderella Castle is the central visual structure at Magic Kingdom, and Carousel of Progress is one of the few attractions directly tied to Walt Disney’s creative involvement.

What This Omission Might Imply

Coverage from Disney-focused outlets suggests several explanations for why these projects do not appear on the 2026 calendar:

  • Disney may not be prepared to commit to specific dates. Projects involving major structures or legacy attractions often require extensive planning, and announcing dates before finalizing details can create logistical issues.

  • Work may begin in 2026 but extend into 2027 due to the scale of the repaint and the attraction overhaul.

  • In the case of Cinderella Castle, the resort may want to avoid having cranes or scaffolding obstruct the structure during peak seasons, as these can affect guest experience and park aesthetics.

At the moment, there is no reason to read the omission as a cancellation. Both projects were publicly announced at Destination D23 and have not been retracted or revised.

What is Known for 2026

Other 2026 updates for the resort have been confirmed. Here are just a few:

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin are set to reopen in spring 2026 at Magic Kingdom.

  • Frozen Ever After at EPCOT will debut updated Audio-Animatronics for Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff beginning in February 2026.

  • The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is scheduled to run from March 4 through June 1, 2026.

These developments indicate that 2026 will be an active year for various projects across the resort, even as two notable upgrades remain without scheduled timelines.

Significance of the Silence

The lack of scheduling information for the castle repaint and Carousel of Progress update is notable because both were recently announced and widely discussed. Their absence from the calendar raises questions about internal planning, operational sequencing, and project prioritization.

Guests planning visits may adjust expectations depending on whether they anticipate the work will be completed before or after 2026.

For Disney, delaying the release of dates may represent a strategic decision. High-visibility refurbishments affect crowd flow, visual appearance, and scheduling of seasonal activities, all of which require careful coordination.

Conclusion

As of December 2025, the official 2026 Walt Disney World Resort calendar does not include the Cinderella Castle repaint or the Carousel of Progress animatronic update. Both projects were announced at Destination D23, yet no timeline has been released. This suggests that the resort may still be finalizing operational details or anticipates that the work will extend into 2027.

Until Disney provides more information, the projects remain in a planning phase, and guests seeking specific dates will need to wait for further announcements.
