The incident occurred shortly before 9 a.m., prompting an emergency response and raising new questions about the aging transportation system Disney continues to rely on despite repeated mechanical issues.
According to eyewitness accounts shared on social media, the situation involved what appeared to be an electrical fire between the cabins of the Silver train. While official details remain scarce, the images and videos circulating online leave little room for doubt: something burned, something smoked, and Disney shut the whole thing down.
No injuries have been confirmed at this time.

“CHRIS in the Concierge Lounge” posted photos with the following statement.
“I didn’t have seeing a monorail have a electrical fire on my bingo card while on my morning run this morning,” he said. “There was quite a bit of smoke that smelled like burning electrical insulation coming out between the cars! By the time I went and got my phone they got it out.”
Another guest, Marlene Borrego, added: “Monorail in front of the Grand Flo this morning around 9:30 a.m. with a small fire.”

Disney Shuts Down Entire Monorail System
Shortly after the smoke was spotted, the entire Walt Disney World monorail system was taken offline. All lines—including the Resort Line, Express Line, and EPCOT beam—went down as Disney initiated its standard shutdown protocols following any incident involving smoke or potential electrical failure.

Disney has not released a statement yet, though many are wondering whether guests were onboard, the cause of the malfunction, the extent of the damage, and when service is expected to resume.
As of publication, no official update has been provided.
Why This Matters
While the monorail remains one of Disney World’s most iconic transportation systems, it is also one of the oldest. Several trains in the fleet are more than 30 years old, and this weekend’s Disney World monorail fire leading into what should be a busy holiday week adds to a growing list of concerns.
These include: doors that have opened mid-ride, air conditioning failures, mechanical stalls, and significant downtime throughout peak-season mornings.

Guests often assume the monorail is among the safest and most reliable modes of transport on property. But when smoke is pouring out between cabins on a resort loop that passes directly beneath hotel balconies, that confidence gets tested pretty quickly.
If anything, today’s incident highlights what fans have been asking for years: When will Disney invest in a full monorail fleet replacement instead of just aesthetic upgrades?
Paint jobs fade. Electrical fires don’t.
Final Thoughts
This weekend’s Disney World monorail fire appears to have been handled quickly by onsite crews, and thankfully there are no reports of injuries.

But imagery of smoke pouring from a monorail next to a deluxe resort will likely reignite long-standing debates about safety, maintenance, and Disney’s spending priorities.
