No company spends millions upon millions for a Super Bowl commercial just to give themselves a pat on the back…
The Walt Disney Company is 100 years old thought the global corporation looks very little like the original vision of Walt himself. Far larger than anything he probably imagined, the company is also a conglomeration of many purchased, preexisting franchises and one-third of the company is devoted now to live sports. Yet such is the way of corporations today.
But a brief examination of Disney’s new video — one which usurped The Little Mermaid live action trailer for a Super Bowl spot — reveals some of the areas we can likely expect to see Disney moving. Much of the video is devoted to properties that we know are soon to see new additions. In some cases that’s the recently revealed Zootopia sequel, in others its Guardians of the Galaxy (specifically Groot). The video isn’t so much a giant celebration of the company with millions of dollars behind putting it on a Super Bowl slot, but rather the video is very limited looks back at nostalgia while marketing future projects to audiences.
And in that way, it’s worth noting that almost no property or character received multiple segments in the video. Yet Rey from Star Wars gets two. BB8 gets another. Grogu is in there as well. If you’re looking for Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, Darth Vader or Yoda… you’re out of luck. But Rey and Grogu are prominently featured. Perhaps the alleged leak from WDW Pro is already coming true?
Another key piece to pay attention to: Wakanda Forever may have been a financial flop for Disney but the Wakanda franchise gets more time than almost anything else in the video. In fact, Wakanda may get as much runtime as all the rest of Marvel. If you think Disney is abandoning Wakanda, think again.

The video shows how out-of-touch Disney is with the public. Aside from that, their Guardians of the Galaxy commercial was showing slapstick with Drax trying to sleep on the couch and somehow that’s not allowed. Are they trying to out Taika Waititi. That’ll win over viewers, NOT.
