Serenity Bay on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay has a new BBQ restaurant for adults only. Earlier in 2025, Disney Cruise Line closed the former barbecue facility at Serenity Bay, sometimes known as Serenity Bay BBQ or Air Bay BBQ, which was an open-air picnic pavilion style location. A new structure known as Hangar 98 BBQ just opened mid-December.

Serenity Bay is a separate adults-only beach of Castaway Island, the private island owned by the Disney Cruise Line. It serves as a port of call on many of its Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries.

The Transition to Hangar 98 BBQ

The former location of Air Bay BBQ remains behind green scrims after its closing earlier in 2025. The pavilion had all outdoor seating with picnic tables on the sand. The new building offers more substantial shelter than before and includes both indoor and outdoor seating areas.

Hangar 98 BBQ incorporates aviation-themed décor, including vintage-style signage, propellers, and other related elements, tying it into the Castaway Air motif found throughout parts of Serenity Bay. The entrance is accessible via a paved path from the beach area.

Hangar 98 BBQ operates during typical lunch service hours on Castaway Cay, generally between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Food at the adults-only barbecue is included in the cost of the cruise.

Only guests who are at least 18 years old can access Serenity Bay and its barbecue facility. This restriction applies to all services on the adults-only beach.

Menu and Offerings

The menu at Hangar 98 BBQ largely mirrors the barbecue fare offered in several locations throughout Castaway Cay but may include items not typically available at family beaches.

Core offerings include:

  • Traditional barbecue items such as burgers, fish, ribs, and rotisserie chicken
  • Chicken and seafood rice bowls
  • Plant-based versions of some dishes
  • Island sides and accompaniments

These selections are posted on menu boards near the serving lines and reflect similar options offered at the family-oriented Cookie’s BBQ locations.

Unlike some family BBQ spots on the island, the adults-only area has offered additional steak options.

Context Within Castaway Cay Dining

Castaway Cay provides several open-air barbecue locations where lunch is served on a buffet or cafeteria-style basis. The three primary BBQ spots include:

  • Cookie’s BBQ at the family beach
  • Cookie’s Too BBQ also at the family beach
  • Hangar 98 BBQ at Serenity Bay, adults-only

All three serve barbecue-style lunches that include meats, salads, sides, fruit, and desserts during midday.

Food service on the island follows similar patterns to cruise ship quick-service lunch venues, with guests able to help themselves to available food during designated hours without reservations.

Conclusion

Castaway Cay now features a new adults-only BBQ restaurant for guests as a part of Serenity Bay.
