How hard is it for Disney executives to keep track of Star Wars?
There are bigger flubs in this world. Former President George W Bush had a heck of a slip yesterday with the words Iraq and Ukraine. But for a company like Disney, which seems to be losing control of its brands and identity, it’s a heck of a thing when your Chief Financial Officer can’t even remember “Star Wars.”
Disney CFO Christine McCarthy stumbled over her words as she tried to say the phrase “Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser.” Instead, she said things like “Star Galactica.” Neither Galactica nor Battlestar Galactica are owned by Disney. Even in her third attempt to get the title of Disney’s newest hotel correct, McCarthy still did not get the name correct. She finished by guessing “Galactic Starship.” That’s close, but no cigar:

There’s plenty amiss at The Walt Disney Company lately. Just color us surprised that it’s so off course that Star Wars and a brand new hotel are already forgotten by leadership. This isn’t the first time McCarthy has created a public relations mess for Disney. She’s previously been, at the least, very coy about filming Mulan near a concentration camp. She’s also made derisive remarks about Disney Parks guests’ weight. When it comes to making a profit, she’s ruthless; when it comes to tact, she’s less than.
The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, meanwhile, despite its amazing creativity, is struggling a bit. In the most recent quarterly earnings report, CEO Bob Chapek did not express confidence the experience would operate at capacity after July. That would indicate it only filled one-hundred room excursions for five months before running out of sufficient interest.
