Doctor Strange 2 Drops Faster Than Spider-man in Third Week

According to Deadline, as well as corroborated by Variety, it is looking like the third weekend for Doctor Strange will not be as kind as it was to Peter Parker.

Spider-man No Way Home released to a gigantic first weekend debut. In the second weekend, it faced headwinds as it’s second Friday also happened to be Christmas Eve. As you might imagine parents have some incentive to stay home on Christmas Eve, which tends to mean that movies on that day do not perform as well. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had no such problem in its second weekend and yet dropped comparably. For those reasons, Marvel was looking for Doctor Strange to hold on in the third weekend in order to have a defense of this important important cinematic entry.

But despite Doctor Strange’s earlier drop, it’s third weekend was another 50%. Spider-man’s was 40% with bigger numbers. That means the latest Marvel film will struggle to get $30M this weekend domestically… and then it’s essentially done. Tom Cruise is on the way next weekend.

Downtown Abbey might not pull from the same demographics, but fighter pilots most certainly do.

Adding it all together, it’s now a race.

Can Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness best The Batman? It’s no longer a sure thing.

Now that I seen it yesterday, I actually liked it. It’s better than the reviews. Certainly the Scarlett Witch is in it as much as Dr Strange, but Dr Strange was sufficiently developed as a character in various different multiverses especially with his interactions with Christine. America Chavez’s character was good enough. I’m happy to hear they replaced the snarky version. I liked Wong and he wasn’t a mere cameo. He had a larger part. Still, Benedict Cumberbatch made the movie worth watching. I give it a 8 out of 10.
