Fans of Dollywood have been voting over the past weeks to determine exactly which ride is the favorite at the Smoky Mountains park in East Tennessee. There have been many contenders as Dollywood sports more roller coasters than Disney World, and it’s not just thrill rides that have been vying for the top spot.
Now, voting is complete and there is a single, clear winner. No, it’s not Dollywood’s mos thrilling attraction, Lightning Rod… and that may surprise some. It turns out that while that may be an incredibly intense and speedy blaze over mountain peaks, the true champ is still thrilling — just a little more smooth.
If you guess that the Wild Eagle was named the best ride at Dollywood, then congratulations! The hanging coaster that has riders under the wings of an eagle and soars along the top of a mountain with incredible views is, according to fans, the very best that Dollywood has to offer.

It’s a tough call for me. I might go with Thunderhead, which has often been in the running for the best wooden coaster in North America. But Wild Eagle is hard to argue against — how many roller coasters take place on top of a natural mountain with a lift hill that follows the ridge contours?
