The west-side security plaza at Downtown Disney District, near the Disneyland Hotel, closed temporarily on September 8, 2025. This entrance sits between Din Tai Fung and the former ESPN Zone building. It previously served as a direct access point for hotel guests walking into Downtown Disney and toward the theme parks.

Security screening equipment has been removed from the site. Construction fencing and machinery are now present. Guests are being redirected to a newer security plaza located to the south. That entrance, which opened in 2024, sits near the Simba Parking Lot and Pixar Place Hotel. Although the west-side entrance is closed to incoming guests, the adjacent exit remains open. Visitors may still leave Downtown Disney through that gate toward the Disneyland Hotel.
Future Plans
Disney has confirmed that the west-side plaza closure is temporary. On-site observations show an excavator operating behind construction fencing. This activity suggests that refurbishment or reconstruction work is in progress. However, Disney has not announced a reopening date or described the planned changes in detail.

The closure aligns with broader redevelopment efforts underway on the west end of Downtown Disney. The resort previously closed the former ESPN Zone building. That space is expected to be converted into a Lululemon store. Other nearby updates include the opening of Din Tai Fung, the addition of a live entertainment stage, and new landscaped areas.
Guests approaching from the Disneyland Hotel should allow more time. This change adds walking distance, but the southern entrance remains fully operational. The old plaza’s exit gate is still open for those leaving Downtown Disney toward the hotel.

Shops and restaurants in the surrounding area continue to operate. There have been no reports of closures beyond the affected entryway. Guests can expect minor changes to walking routes but full access to retail and dining.
As of now, Disneyland Resort has not submitted detailed public permits related to the project. The company has also not released specific information about the scope of construction.

Visitors should monitor official Disneyland channels for further updates. Directional signage is posted to help guide guests to the nearest available entrance.
