Elon Musk has officially pulled the plug on Netflix, sparking a new wave of cancellations after outrage over Dead End: Paranormal Park, a show that Netflix rated for children ages 7 and up despite centering its story around gender ideology and PRIDE-centric characters.

The controversy flared up after clips from the show resurfaced on social media, including one post that went viral with millions of views. Critics argue that Netflix is slipping gender ideology into family programming, effectively packaging it for young audiences.
The Show at the Center of the Storm
Dead End: Paranormal Park premiered in 2022 and ran for two seasons before Netflix cancelled it in early 2023. The series, created by Hamish Steele, follows a pair of teens navigating supernatural adventures inside a haunted theme park. The lead character, Barney, openly identifies with a gender that differs from birth.
Though the show is no longer in production, it remains on the Netflix platform under the Kids & Family category with a TV-Y7 rating. That classification means the program is listed as appropriate for ages 7 and older, a sticking point for parents who see this as an intentional push of identity-based themes into children’s media.
Musk Steps In
Musk poured gasoline on the fire when he reposted a cancellation call and wrote, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.” He later confirmed he had axed his own subscription, responding “same” to another user who had already canceled.

His comments lit up social media, with a flood of users announcing their own cancellations in solidarity. Whether the movement results in measurable losses for Netflix remains to be seen, but Musk’s involvement has amplified the situation far beyond online chatter.
Netflix’s stock dipped around 2% on the day Musk made his comments, though analysts debate whether that was directly tied to the controversy.
Creator Controversy
The backlash intensified when screenshots began circulating of Paranormal Park creator Hamish Steele allegedly mocking the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. In the images, Steele was said to have called Kirk a “random N*zi.”

“My Instagram comments are now flooded with replies saying I AM CHARLIE KIRK and that I celebrated his death (which I never did),” Steele said, “And all I can think of is Yvie Oddley shouting “WHAT HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH ANYTHING?”
Steele has since denied celebrating Kirk’s death, calling the claims “lies and slander” and insisting he never condoned violence. Still, the screenshots—whether accurately represented or not—have fueled conservative anger at both the show and Netflix for platforming it.
Supporters Push Back
Voice actor Zach Barack, who plays Barney, defended the show. Barack openly identifies as a gender that differs from birth and claims the show actually has saved lives.

“(I) have been out for 10 years,” Barack said. “I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and if someone had shown me this television program as a kid it would’ve saved me years of hating myself. You can fear monger all you want, but kids and parents have told me it saved their lives!”
Steele himself previously said Netflix gave little resistance to his inclusion of PRIDE-centric characters, reflecting the company’s reputation for platforming progressive content.
The Bigger Picture
The uproar has reignited a familiar debate: Is this simply representation, or is it ideology aimed at children? Supporters argue that representation “saves lives” and offers kids belonging, while critics counter that placing these narratives in a 7+ show crosses a line.

For Netflix, the timing couldn’t be worse. Already facing fierce competition from Disney+, Amazon, and other streamers, the company now faces a cultural backlash fueled by one of the most influential figures in the world.
Whether this cancellation wave fizzles or sticks may depend on whether parents see Dead End: Paranormal Park as another example of corporate media pushing values on children that families never asked for.

Did he and other people forget all about Cuties? This shouldn’t be a shock to anyone.
I mean, people should’ve cancelled Netflix when they released Cuties, but this is progress. Nothing coming from Netflix is worth watching, precisely because it comes with woke propaganda. Appreciate Elon signal boosting that.
