With the grand opening of a new adults-only lounge in EPCOT called GEO-82 just a day away, Disney has quietly removed two large trees from Dreamers Point—an area previously celebrated for its contemplative tribute to Walt Disney. The removal has sparked renewed scrutiny of EPCOT’s ongoing transformation, with critics accusing Disney of further sidelining families in favor of catering to childless adult travelers and upscale drinking experiences.

A Quiet Landscaping Change with Loud Implications

Dreamers Point is located just behind Spaceship Earth and features a Walt Disney statue, seated and gazing out at the World Celebration Gardens. For months, the area had been framed by two tall, mature trees that provided both visual balance and shade. As of early June, those trees are gone—cleared away in what appears to be a deliberate effort to enhance the lounge’s sightlines.

The GEO-82 lounge, which officially opens June 4th, sits on the second floor of the newly redesigned post-show area of Spaceship Earth. Its large windows now offer a direct, unobstructed view of Dreamers Point. The timing of the tree removal—just days before the lounge opens—has left little doubt that the decision was made to benefit the new adult-focused venue.

Reservations for GEO-82 are already booked out for months. The venue promises upscale dining and cocktail offerings in an exclusive environment restricted to guests aged 21 and older. In contrast to the park’s historic focus on education and family entertainment, the GEO-82 experience leans into EPCOT’s growing trend of alcohol-based offerings aimed at adult travelers, particularly the so-called “Disney Adults” and DINK (Dual Income, No Kids) demographics.

EPCOT’s Shifting Priorities

The removal of trees in EPCOT to open up a premium view for adult patrons purchasing high-priced drinks might seem trivial in isolation. But to longtime fans, it’s the latest sign that EPCOT is slowly shedding its identity as a place for families to dream, learn, and explore together.

Over the past decade, EPCOT has seen the rise of food and drink festivals, pop-up bars, and seasonal kiosks emphasizing alcohol as a core part of the experience. While these offerings have proved profitable, they have also changed the tone of the park. Reports of disruptive guest behavior—including loud intoxicated groups, public vomiting, belligerence, and even instances of nudity (personally observed in horror by this reporter)—have become increasingly common during peak festival seasons.

To many observers, the steady pivot away from family-friendly spaces toward adult-exclusive areas like GEO-82 reflects a strategic business choice that risks alienating the park’s core audience. Parents with children may find fewer spaces to relax, and fewer attractions tailored to them, as the park reorients around premium adult experiences and nightlife-style ambiance.

A View of Walt—But Not for Everyone

Ironically, the new view from GEO-82 centers on the statue of Walt Disney himself. The Walt the Dreamer statue was designed as a symbol of inspiration and hope, a quiet reminder of the man who imagined a utopia where families could grow, learn, and imagine together. But with the removal of the flanking trees, Walt now sits exposed—literally and figuratively—so that an upscale bar can have a better view for its adult guests in a space that bars children.

Some guests see this as a symbolic moment: Walt’s vision, once protected and framed by nature, is now wide open to the gaze of paying patrons sipping cocktails behind glass. The statement this makes about priorities is not lost on many longtime fans.

No Comment from Disney

As of publication, Disney has not made any official statement regarding the removal of the EPCOT trees. The change was not announced, nor was it addressed in any press material about GEO-82’s launch. But to those paying attention, the decision is part of a pattern—quiet alterations that incrementally reshape EPCOT from a place of discovery and family bonding into something more akin to an adult-friendly nightlife venue like the former Pleasure Island section of Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs).

Whether that change proves successful in the long run remains to be seen. For now, the trees are gone, the lounge is open, and Walt’s statue sits in full view—just not necessarily for the people it was envisioned for.

Another stellar move on the part of the Parks CEO who is almost certain to become Bob iger’s new meat puppet as the Disney CEO. Iger was able to foist off most of his failures on the previous guy who replaced him (Chapek was also from Parks, right?) and it worked great! Why not a second time?

When Marvel and Star Wars finally hit rock bottom (as if they had much further to fall) thanks to decisions by Iger to not shove Feige or Kennedy the door, Josh DeWhateverhisfaceis will be dethroned and the board will beg Iger, the Disney Whisperer to return.

Help us Obi-Iger, you’re our only hope!
