The entire entertainment industry is waking up to one independent artist who is defeating all the stopgaps intended to keep multimedia corporations and narratives in power.
Something is afoot. The mainstream press isn’t covering it, as per the norm, as it has yet to bubble up to their purview. But what is happening is important and will result in one of two possible responses. Either the traditional gatekeepers will review how in the world the Rippaverse by Eric July was able to gather fans and resources so they stomp out any further rising stars, or they will simply and finally be defeated.
The corporate media powers maintain a strong hold over much of the internet. Review aggregators are often regulated in the background by huge corporations that have a vested interest in particular narratives succeeding and failing. Social media algorithms are used to quietly rank particular ideas and patterns so that the big stay big and the small remain little… unless a corporate power chooses to lift them up. And though there have been breakthroughs in this iron ceiling, namely in both Gina Carano and Jordan Peterson being picked up by a seemingly autonomously-powerful Daily Wire, the average person trying to gain fame for their art lives each day with the knowledge they could be nuked from social media and online video with nearly zero recourse.
This power-control extends all the way to platforms such as Reddit where moderators often receive perks from corporate powers that entice them to make decisions that seem to be at odds with free discourse. The control of narrative is often influenced by Chinese censors when it comes to video games and major movies. In smaller art sources, a California and New York DEI system intended to usurp merit for tribalism is able to clamp down on fantastic new artists who think and act outside of the accepted orthodoxy.
Rippaverse is the most interesting thing happening in comics right now. https://t.co/6KuPHb14UU

So the fact that Eric July has defeated the iron ceiling that stops so many from achieving massive success is something to be amazed by. Maybe you like his art, maybe you don’t. Maybe you like his opinions, maybe you don’t. But there’s no way I can see to look at what he has accomplished and not be utterly impressed. Even still, the people who dislike his product and/or views are working very hard to make it difficult for consumers to find it, buy it, share it, etc.
It doesn’t seem to be working. Instead, it appears to be creating a Barbara Streisand tsunami:

If Eric July continues to be successful, and then if he also takes this to a new level with a path forward for other aspiring, excellent artists, this could be the dawn of a new track for entertainment. Whether you think that’s wise or unwise, it’s what we are witnessing unfold. Surely the old guard comic and multimedia companies will try to stop this, but he’s already making millions of dollars for his art. Mr. July is a fan of decentralized economy and paralell economies — something that likely terrifies major entertainment corporations. Whether or not he will succeed will depend on how many consumers are willing to stick with him and how well he can navigate the wave of censorship efforts that are likely heading his way. Some like him – though in other areas of communication – have succeeded. Others have failed. Mr. July’s story has yet to be told, but it has the potential to revolutionize the entertainment industry fully.

I am wondering if the herd of fish has changed direction. They have trained us, the audience, to associate a bad product with Hollywood/ big corporation. Is the audience activity seeking out smaller sources?
