The Rippaverse is making huge news as it surges past $3,000,000. Is the mainstream comics industry so damaged that they’ve lost their customers and control?
Is it a paradigm shift in the comics industry? If nothing else, it’s a paradigm shift for Eric July and his employees… they have just crossed three million dollars in revenue funding his independent comic superhero series. Talk about an unmitigated success!

And it must be incredibly liberating for all who are working on the Rippaverse. Even employees are now coming out and talking about how happy they are to be free from the constraints of the mainstream industry.
Taking to Twitter on July 11th shortly after the campaign for the debut issue of the July written, Eltaeb, Cliff-Richards, and Eric Weathers illustrated Isom went live, the colorist proudly promoted the crowdfunding effort by asserting to his followers, “Having the courage to leave @DCComics is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I am proud that in a world most fear what others think, I had the bravery to go against the WOKE grain.”

As far as entertainment goes, this is a huge deal. Think about Marvel and DC in terms of their movies. Neither is doing so hot at the moment outside of Sony’s efforts with Spider-Man. Some are starting to believe that’s because the underpinning of those companies are their comic book stories, of which they have gone so far into the “woke” territory that they’re beyond parody. That’s drying up some of the content the major films can pull from. So as the mainstream comic book industry is drying up and wilting the lore for movies, here comes an independent comic book company that is raking in massive amounts of cash from fans hungry for a return to good storytelling.
Maybe it is a paradigm shift after all? Seems like we’re beginning to see that across a number of mediums all over the country and the world.
