An exclusive That Park Place source close to the situation at Disney is sharing word of a potential resurrection for MuppetVision 3D—but with a twist. According to our insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, internal discussions are reportedly taking place within Disney about reviving the fan-favorite attraction following its emotional final showing last week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and moving MuppetVision to a new location.

As with all third-party sourced information, readers should consider this a rumor until official confirmation is provided by Disney.

Overwhelming Fan Response Sparks Internal Conversations

Our source claims that the closure of MuppetVision 3D sparked far more emotional guest response than Disney anticipated. Long lines for the final day, crowd overflow into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and packed theaters throughout the weekend reportedly caused some within the company to reevaluate the decision to permanently shutter Jim Henson’s final Muppet project.

But rather than reopening the original theater, which is now expected to house an as-of-yet-unnamed Monsters Inc. theatrical production, the alleged plan would see MuppetVision 3D return in a new location within the park.

Disney Villains Show Reportedly Underperforming

According to our source, one option being floated internally is repurposing the theater that currently houses Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, a production recently introduced to the park. That show, which debuted with high hopes, is reportedly receiving lackluster guest feedback, and there’s growing concern within Disney that its presence could undermine future enthusiasm for the upcoming Magic Kingdom villains land expansion.

Notably, the Unfairly Ever After theater is said to have the same seating capacity as MuppetVision 3D’s original venue, making a relocation technically viable. The theater is also located adjacent to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, which Disney has confirmed will be re-themed to The Muppets in 2026.

Bringing MuppetVision 3D into that space, as our source describes, would help solidify the area as a new Muppets Courtyard, potentially giving Kermit and the gang a new lease on life within the park.

Show Elements Being Preserved

Fueling speculation, our source also noted that key elements from the MuppetVision 3D experience are being carefully preserved, including pre-show set pieces, in-theater props, posters, and themed decor. While it’s not clear whether these are being archived for a future revival, relocated to a museum setting, or possibly returned to the Henson family, the level of care described here doesn’t feel like these precious elements are being thrown into a vault never to be seen again.

No official announcement has been made regarding these preserved materials.

No Walkaround Muppets Return Planned

On a more disappointing note, the same source told us that the original Muppet walkaround character costumes—last seen decades ago in Disney’s MGM Studios—have all been destroyed, dashing any realistic hopes of returning meet-and-greet Muppet characters to the parks.

Many behind the scenes reportedly inquired about bringing out Muppet characters for special meet and greets around the attractions closure and were informed that the costumes no longer existed.

While new costumes could theoretically be created, there is reportedly no current plan to do so.

Final Thoughts

If true, this rumor of a new location for MuppetVision 3D represents a rare case of Disney course-correcting based on fan love and legacy value rather than IP freshness. With The Muppets set to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in the near future, a unified Muppet-themed land could go a long way in preserving the legacy of Jim Henson’s characters for future generations.

For now, however, this is only a rumor, and we encourage our readers to stay tuned as That Park Place continues to investigate.

This would be amazing! Did I want Muppets to close? Absolutely not. I was vehemently opposed to it, BUT I would completely be on board with a relocation as long as they preserve the propping and theming of the theater, preserve and restore the fountain to it’s former glory, and really do a great job of plussing it, including bringing back the hot air balloon. If they follow through with this rumor and do it right, then I will forgive them for taking it away. It sucks that it took fighting and fan outpouring to bring it back, but in life you have to fight for the things you love and believe in, so it gave us all the opportunity to fight for Jim.

To be honest, I was a fan of the Villains show. I thought it was pretty entertaining. A lot better in person than what the videos online show. I was on my vacation the first few days it released. It seemed like each showing was completely full. That may just be because it was the first week, though? How long was the Lightning McQueen show in there? How quick would they switch things out?
