The Walt Disney Company apparently planned to merge significant parts of Hulu and Disney Plus in September. We are now informed by a source that it has been moved to December.
The following article reports on future actions of a company that can change. To the best of our knowledge, this is the current plan.
It’s now looking like Project Hulk — the move of Hulu into Disney Plus — is on schedule to happen in December of this year. That from a source who has reached out with images seeming to confirm how Disney is projecting this knowledge internally and to partners. According to the source:
I can’t speak to whether Disney will kill Hulu because, well, no one really can. I’m sure pretty much everything is on the table but even if there is a plan right now to kill it then that plan will most likely change sooner if not later. I say this because just about every plan has changed recently. Everything is being rethought, re-analyzed and re-evaluated under the new budget-conscious decrees. Plans are drawn up, tentative first steps are taken and then the results are evaluated to inform the newly revised plan. Disney is a much more conscientious and cautious company now, highly aware of the dollars being spent and the value it’s getting in return. In other words, they’re beginning to behave like a responsible company. We’ll see if that continues.Hulu on D+ – or Project Hulk as it’s called internally because it will make D+ “bigger and greener” – is currently just one of those first steps in a plan. The idea is to make it easier for customers who bought the D+/Hulu bundle to view Hulu content within the D+ app. Below I’ve included a summarization slide for the project. The plan is to display Hulu as a blade within D+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S. and allow them to watch only a subset of Hulu SVOD content. This slide is from earlier this year and that September 2023 date has now moved to December 2023. Another phase of the project is scheduled for several months later but it all depends on how subscribers react to phase one. Plans could change. One last thing, chasing subscribers is really no longer a thing for Disney. For almost the past year, a massive amount of time and money has been devoted to this Hulu integration and I would be incredibly shocked if the goal was just to make the D+ subscriber count look a little bit better.

In its early years, Hulu played a pivotal role in shaping the way viewers engaged with television content online. It was one of the first platforms to offer next-day streaming of current TV episodes, bridging the gap between traditional broadcasting and digital distribution. The service’s innovative approach to content delivery contributed to its rapid growth in subscribers and popularity.
As time progressed, Hulu evolved its business model by introducing a subscription tier, Hulu Plus (later rebranded as Hulu with Live TV), which provided access to a wider library of content and live TV channels. The service continued to secure partnerships with major studios and networks, expanding its content catalog to include exclusive shows, original series, and acclaimed films.
Hulu’s history reflects the broader shift in entertainment consumption habits, showcasing how a collaborative effort between media conglomerates can result in a dynamic and influential streaming platform. Over the years, Hulu has navigated changes in ownership and competition, becoming a significant player in the streaming industry and a testament to the transformative power of digital media on traditional television distribution.
Now, it seems that Hulu may one day just be a blade inside Disney Plus… or even less if rumors of Disney’s desire to kill it for the subscribers turns out to be true.
