An inside source is spilling the beans to That Park Place in regards to Tron and its upcoming opening. Are you read you ready to pay a premium?
The following article was relayed to TPP by an inside source at Walt Disney World. However, this article is based on information leaked prior to public statement and thus can change — it is also, therefore, appropriately labeled “rumor” despite our strong opinion that this is the internal position for Disney Parks at this time.
It’s been highly speculated up until this point, but an inside source is now confirming to That Park Place that Magic Kingdom’s upcoming Tron roller coaster will be exclusively virtual queue boarding when it opens in early 2023. As a result, you can expect the same revenue padding for Disney Parks that you saw with Cosmic Rewind when it opened in Epcot. Also confirmed is that Splash Mountain will close permanently just before, or on the day of, the release of Tron to the public. This is expected to soften the public relations blow back that the company thinks it could face by closing Splash Mountain.
All of this comes from a highly credible source who works for Disney World.
Work has continued on Tron despite a slight delay from the recent hurricane. The attraction just had the railroad tracks completed going through the tunnel underneath. Work is also reportedly picking up with interior work, specifically on the queue. All of this seems to signal the ride will be made available in the first quarter of 2023. That also may coincide with when Splash Mountain goes down permanently, perhaps forgoing its normal refurbishment in January so that it can operate continuously until its final date.
Though some will be happy to hear about the virtual queue system, others may find that it generates too much random chance into who rides for free versus who has to pay. So far, however, there has been little pushback against the system for new rides.
Not my best, but always pumped to get a Virtual Queue. #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy #CosmicRewind pic.twitter.com/sXYUszWHZU
